Marrakech Welcomes Outdoor Sculpture Park

With the Atlas Mountains as its backdrop, Fondation Alliances is bringing a monumental outdoor exhibition — the first of its kind in Africa — to Morocco. Al Maaden Sculptures Park was created by both Moroccan and international artists, associating art with architecture on a picturesque spot in Marrakech. With work by Moroccan and international artists, the initiative was based on an idea by collectors Alami and Farida Lazraq, who have long been committed to artistic creation.
“We wanted to provide artists with a unique field of expression, giving free rein to their imagination” says Alami Lazraq.
The park was created following a call for projects. Artists were invited to design site and space-specific in situ works. The project will receive more than twenty sculptures over the years. Twelve works are currently on view, selected by a committee for artistic quality and fit within the sprit of the venue.
Blouin ARTINFO France spoke with Fondation Alliances Executive Director Alexandra Balafrej about the project.
