In this gripping essay film, director Johan Grimonprez traces the collision of African politics and American jazz, revealing the forces behind the 1961 assassination of Congo's leader Patrice Lumumba. Through eyewitness accounts, government memos, speeches, and a rich soundtrack of jazz icons, ‘Soundtrack to a Coup d'Etat’ examines colonial history in a story whose political resonance remains strikingly relevant today.
