Studio Theatre in association with the Islip Arts Council presents A Midsummer Night’s Dream When: Thursday, May 14th & Sunday, May 17th - 7:00 PM Call Backs (by invitation) - TBD Where: Manes Studio Theatre of Long Island 141 S. Wellwood Ave. Lindenhurst, NY 11757 ALL ROLES OPEN Roles & Descriptions: Human Court: Theseus (m/f age 40s-60s)- Duke of Athens, recently returned from conquering the Amazons, a race of warrior women and is about to marry the conquered Amazon Queen Hippolyta. Lysander (m age 20s-30s)- Young nobleman of Athens. In love with Hermia. Hermia’s father is against her marrying him, he persuades Hermia to run away from home & family into the forest. Demetrius (m age 20s-30s)– A young nobleman of Athens. In the past he acted as if he loved Helena, but after Helena fell in love with him, he changed his mind and having the approval of Egeus, he pursues Hermia. (But she’s not interested) Egeus (m/f age 50s-60s)- An Athenian upper-class respected gentleman who wants his daughter Hermia to marry Demetrius, his choice for her. Philostrate (m/f age 20s +)- Theseus’s Master of the Revels (party planner) who is responsible for organizing the entertainment for the Duke’s marriage celebration. Hippolyta (f age 40s-60s)- The legendary Queen of the Amazons engaged to marry Theseus. Hermia (f ages 20s-30s)- Egeus’s daughter. Both Demetrius and Lysander are in love with her. She is in love with Lysander. Very strong-willed and independent. Helena (f ages 20s-30s)- A good friend of Hermia’s and is in love with Demetrius. She tends to be more self-pitying and puts herself in dangerous and humiliating situations, running after Demetrius through the forest even though he wants nothing to do with her. Fairy Court: Puck(AKA Robin Goodfellow)(m/f ages 20s+)- A mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals; he is Oberon’s servant. He has a connection not only to the fairy and human worlds of the play, but also to the world of the audience. Oberon (m/f age 40s-60s) - The King of the Fairies who rules with Titania Titania (f age 40s-60s)- Queen of the Fairies who rules with Oberon Other Fairies can be any gender or age. Teens welcome! Thistleweed - featured in dialogue; needs to move well  Peasebottom, Moth, Cobweb, and Mustardseed – Fairies with a few lines, needs to move well  The Mechanicals: Aspiring Thespians who provide comic relief  Nick Bottom (m/f ages 20s- 30s)- The overconfident weaver chosen to play Pyramus in the play that a group of craftsmen have decided to put on for the wedding celebration. Peter Quince (m/f ages 20s +)- A carpenter and the writer/director of the play Other mechanicals can be any gender or age. Teens welcome! Francis Flute - The bellows-mender chosen to play Thisbe in the play. Forced to play a young girl in love. Robin Starveling - The tailor chosen to play Thisbe’s mother in the play/ends up playing the part of Moonshine Snug - The joiner (a tradesperson who builds things by joining wood) chosen to play the lion in the play. Tom Snout - The tinker (someone who does odd jobs) chosen to play Pyramus’s father in the play. Ends up playing the part of the Wall, dividing the two lovers in the play. Rehearsals: Studio Theatre Lindenhurst, The Islip Arts Council Office in Bay Shore(Sunday- Thursday) Shows:  Various outdoor venues in the township of Islip (Dates in July & August TBD) Please prepare a 1-2 minute classical monologue, headshot and resume recommended  Anyone with experience in gymnastics, tumbling, clowning, acrobatics, magics, etc. you are highly encouraged to audition. Be ready to show us your special skills No show conflicts accepted, minimal rehearsal conflicts accepted and must be at all of tech Some roles will be doubled Most roles are for adults but there will be a few roles open to teens, descriptions below A stipend for performances is available to actors 18 and older. REGISTER LIFE DRAWING: OPEN FIGURE NIGHT Tuesday, April 21, 6-8PM Spend an evening working on your life drawing skills with a live model at the gallery! Whether you are shaking off some rust or new to drawing the figure, you are welcome to come alone or bring a friend and practice! This uninstructed class is a great opportunity to get loose in drawing during short and long poses provided by the model. Bring a drawing pad, charcoal or pencils, or utilize the gallery supplies. Friday, May 8, 6-8 pm / $40 REGISTER Collective Collage: Create a Zine or Postcard on World Collage Day  Saturday, May 9, 5:30 - 7:30pm World Collage Day—initiated by Kolaj Magazine in 2018—is an annual international celebration of collage, held every second Saturday of May. Collage is an art form that combines different images and materials—typically 2D elements—to create a new and unique work of art. Using simple tools like glue or tape, collage is accessible to everyone. Islip Arts is excited to participate in this year’s celebration by hosting a Collective Collage Workshop. Students can create a postcard (or two) to send to someone they love, or design a mini zine that tells a story, holds poems, or expresses their creativity. $30.00 All supplies included   PLEINATHON: All Day Plein Air Painting Marathon Saturday, May 16, 10am-4pm Location: Fire Island - Sailor's Haven/Sunken Forest Pleinathon invites artists of all levels and backgrounds to come outside and take in the fresh air and observe nature while painting outdoors. This year, we will take a ferry over to Fire Island and paint the beautiful scenery of Sailor's Haven & Sunken Forest. Each participant will spend the day painting at their preferred spot and will get to enter their completed painting(s) in the upcoming Plein Air Exhibition at the Gallery. Fee: $40.00 - Includes one roundtrip ferry ticket from Sayville Ferry (valid only for May 16/Rain date May 17)  REGISTER FOR PLEINATHON HERE   ANNUAL TEENYS Sunday, June 14, 7pm "Teenys" is an annual, Tony-style gala intended to recognize outstanding high school theater students within the Town of Islip. The program celebrates, rewards, and supports young performers, promoting their pursuit of professional arts education. Mission: To honor local performing arts students, promote high-quality artistic training, and spotlight school theater programs. The Gala: An annual celebration featuring red carpet events and performances. Merchandise/Support: The council offers tickets, t-shirts, lawn signs, and "shout outs" to celebrate nominees. Location: The program is administered by the Islip Arts Council and will take place this year on Sunday, June 14, 7pm at Bay Shore High School. HELP SPONSOR THE TEENYS EXHIBITIONS   IAC and the Central Islip Civics Council, along with the Suffolk County Youth Bureau present work from young artists attending the Central Islip School District. The program began in 2017, offering an opportunity for students to express themselves in positive and creative ways. On view April 1 - 18 Join us at the reception: April 16, 5-7pm     In honor of Jewish heritage, IAC welcomed Jewish artists to exhibit artwork that reflects, celebrates, or is inspired by their culture, traditions, lived experiences, artistic voice, or pieces they feel proud to share.
