The Tipping Point

𝙙𝙚 𝙡𝙖 𝙏𝙤𝙧𝙧𝙚 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩 opens at Laguna Art Museum on August 1! Walk into 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩, and you are transported to a lavish dinner scene. Glass works are interwoven with selected objects, creating a densely layered environment accented by chandeliers, suspended forms and floor-level objects all centered around a monumental banquet-length table that rewards close looking.

By working within the forms of inherited traditions of display and status, artist brothers Einar and Jamex de la Torre have carefully orchestrated a breathtaking transformation of our California gallery. Ornately decorated surfaces and lighting create a sense of visual abundance while guiding visitors through the space as active participants rather than passive viewers. Together, these elements form an immersive tableau that surrounds the viewer and transforms the gallery into a singular, experiential environment that encourages you to reflect on society’s fascination with wealth, abundance, and consumption, and the ways we all participate in systems of excess.

For the Love of the Sea

Celebrating the enduring legacy of Frank Cuprien, a founding figure of Laguna Beach’s art community and one of California’s most devoted painters of the Pacific coast. More than a presentation of paintings, the exhibition invites visitors to know Frank Cuprien as an artist and as a person. Archival materials from the museum’s collection, including photographs, letters and personal records offer rare insight into his daily practice, friendships and deep attachment to Laguna Beach. These materials place the artworks in lived context, illuminating how Cuprien returned to the same stretch of shoreline again and again, finding endless variation in light, movement and mood.
