Creative Collage; Matisse, Krasner, and Pollock

Discover the innovative collages of three modern masters - Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, and Henri Matisse. Then tour the studio where Pollock and Krasner made abstract expressionist paintings and collages. While Pollock is best known for his drip painting technique, this program will present his experimental abstract collages. Also presented will be Krasner’s monumental collages made by ripping, cutting, and gluing pieces of her former artworks to create new compositions as well as the cut-outs of Matisse who was an inspiration for Krasner. Joyce Raimondo will then demonstrate collage techniques.

Have supplies on hand for your project; scissors, glue, surface for your art such as paper or canvas, materials to paste to your project such as colored papers and other materials. Optional paint or drawing.

Offered by Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center

Curators Quote

BOLD AND CONFIDENT INTENSE AND STRONG.

The word fierce was first used in English during the 13th century, coming from the old French word fiers, which means proud and wild.

This exhibit celebrates that spirit with tennis icons hanging alongside Hollywood icons.  Center court or center stage, it is all about the performance.

Federer.  Nadal.  McEnroe.  Monroe.  Jagger.  Bardot.

Forces of nature on the court meet forces of nature of the sea with photographs that capture the dynamic energy of the perfect splash.

A heart made of mousetraps is a fierce commentary on love while paintings and photographs of bikinis take a walk on the wild side right in step with fishnets and stilettos.

A female centric collage captures the fierceness of a woman in power while other female centric mixed media pieces comment on the wild trappings of privilege.

Abstract paintings take the viewer on wild imaginings and pool parties come to life in wild illustrations while people stand proudly on chairs.  And what would a fierce exhibit be without a butterfly whose metamorphosis from a caterpillar is about as wild as it gets.

A multitude of creative forces came together for this exhibit.  How else would you get to Fierce.

SPECIAL FEATURE  FOR THIS EXHIBITION  INCLUDES GAME CHANGERS

 by contemporary sports artist

TED DIMOND

The Moments. The Matches. The Memories.

Where Were You When History Took the Court?

More than an exhibition of tennis paintings, FIERCE is a visual journey through the matches, players, rivalries, and moments that shaped the history of the sport. Through a collection of original oil paintings, Dimond captures the emotion, drama, and significance of game changing moments that tennis fans remember forever.

From championship points and historic victories to legendary rivalries and breakthrough performances, each painting tells the story of a moment that became part of tennis history. Accompanying every work is a historical reference to the match, an iconic quote from the player, and a short narrative explaining why that moment remains significant in the history of the sport.

Featured throughout the exhibition are some of the most memorable voices in tennis history:

“You cannot be serious!” — John McEnroe

“Pressure is a privilege.” — Billie Jean King

“Champions keep playing until they get it right.” — Billie Jean King

“I never looked back.” — Arthur Ashe

“I hate to lose more than I love to win.” — Jimmy Connors

“Tennis uses the language of life.” — Andre Agassi

“And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row.” — Vitas Gerulaitis

“I never lost a match. I just ran out of time.” — Björn Borg

A highlight of the Opening night will be a special Player Portrait Unveiling Night, where a past/current ATP and WTA professional will appear in person to unveil original Ted Dimond portraits, meet fans, sign autographs, and share stories from their careers.

Recent unveiling events have featured some of the sport’s most exciting stars, including Frances Tiafoe and Flavio Cobolli during the 2025 U.S. Open exhibition, and Jasmine Paolini, Sara Errani, and Jakub Mensik during the 2024 exhibition season.  Celebrities from tennis and other sports include Tom Brady, Joe Namath, Lawrence Taylor and Jack Nicklaus to name a few.

As a former professional tennis player, coach, and life long student of the game, Dimond brings a unique perspective to his work. His signature style combines traditional oil painting with multiple layers of clear polymer, creating a sense of movement, depth, and energy that mirrors the intensity of competition.

“Every tennis fan remembers where they were when certain moments happened,” said Ted Dimond. “McEnroe’s outburst. Ashe breaking barriers. Connors fighting until the last point. Vitas delivered one of the greatest lines in sports history. These paintings aren’t just about tennis—they’re about memories. They remind us why we fell in love with the game in the first place.

The paintings tell the stories of tennis history, but the unveiling nights bring those stories to life. Fans have the opportunity not only to see the artwork, but to meet the players who created these unforgettable moments and hear their stories firsthand.”

The exhibition will feature portraits of legendary champions including Arthur Ashe, Billie Jean King, John McEnroe, Björn Borg, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams, and Venus Williams, along with the game’s new generation of trailblazers including Coco Gauff, Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and João Fonseca.

FIERCE- The Moments. The Matches. The Memories. will be on view August 18–30, 2026, at The White Room Gallery. Original paintings and select limited-edition giclées will be available for acquisition throughout the exhibition.

Call to Student Artists

Grades 6 -12

Nightmare on Main Street

Juried by Gina Ienopoli

DEADLINE: September 22, 2026

Exhibition Dates

October 27 – November 15, 2026

Nightmare on Main Street is the Huntington Arts Councils annual exhibit for student artists in grades 6-12. Students from any school district are welcome to submit work. This year our juror is Gina Ienopoli. Students are encouraged to use her works and the following statement to inspire their own works.

"Folklore from various cultures shares captivating stories during gatherings or at bedtime, passing down moral lessons to each generation. Native Filipinos tell tales of mythical beings such as the Tiyanak, a deceptive shape-shifting creature who mimics a crying baby to entice compassionate individuals deeper into the jungle, and the Diwata, beautiful guardian spirits of forests and mountains who can either bless or curse someone based on their treatment of nature.

The Tikyanak stories warn against rashness and emphasize the dangers of the unknown, while the Diwata stories advocate respect towards the Earth and one's environment. In your own world or using your own culture, create a mythical creature that inhabits its own environment and convey a backstory that imparts a lesson, incorporating visual elements to explain this throughout your work."
