ART WALK SUCCESS

It was a fun-filled day at the East Islip Art Walk held on Sunday, August 30, from 2-6pm. Vendors, musicians, painters, and more gathered to enjoy creativity at the American Legion on Bayway Avenue. Artie "seekers" were on the search to find Artie the octopus, IAC's official ambassador, in various businesses to complete the Art Walk Scavenger Hunt. Participants enjoyed tile painting at Momentum Rehabilitation and acrylic pour demos with Bryan Holland.

Thank you to all supporters, performers, artists and artisans, and IAC volunteers for making this event a success! We are looking forward to planning the next one!

ISLIP GOES PURPLE

Thank you to West Islip High School students for painting Artie, IAC's Ambassador, on our gallery window for the month of September as part of ISLIP GOES PURPLE - honoring National Recovery Awareness Month.

Islip Goes Purple is a month-long initiative designed to unite The Town of Islip in raising awareness of mental health, substance use disorder and celebrating those in recovery. All townships were encouraged to “go purple” and hold events throughout National Recovery Month in September.

ART EXHIBITS

ZANNAT SULTANA SOLO SHOW: SEPTEMBER 1 - 17

SUNDARAM is Zannat Sultana's first solo show in years, and her first in the United States, where she takes her love of flowers and blends it with everyday objects from her home, resulting in 27 still-life drawings. Each drawing different than the other represents faux and real flowers from her garden, vases she’s decoupaged herself, and monumental vases and trinkets from her home country, Bangladesh

Sundaram, which translates to beauty in her language, is the title of her series --all done in pastels and completed within 2 years. Long-lasting beauty, deep meaning, and emotional fragility are only a few symbols and words that come to mind when observing floral vases, something that is often overlooked by most; yet to the artist’s eye, there is a reason for attempting to capture such an everyday subject, as seen time and time again in centuries-old paintings by the classic masters.

Please join her for her Opening Reception on Saturday, September 5, 4-6 pm. Refreshments will be served. All welcomed!

FEATURED ARTIST: VICTORIA PIERRE-JEAN

Coming SOON is our next Featured Artist Victoria Pierre-Jean showcasing her series of acrylic paintings from September 15 - October 24.

ADRC ART EXPRESSION PROGRAM

STUDENT SHOWCASE - FEATURED ARTIST WALL

Coming September 18 is the Alzheimer's Disease Resource Center (ADRC) to bring another beautiful and colorful art show at the gallery.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Art stimulates and enriches those struggling with memory loss and opens alternate pathways for expression and recollection. ADRC’s Art Programs introduce projects appropriate for people with Alzheimer’s and other cognitive impairments, using a hands-on approach.

The result? An experience that engages people, helping them retain their sense of self. The programs welcome family members and caregivers too, providing social connection and respite.

Artwork will be on public display September 18 - 29, with a special celebration to be held on September 25, World Alzheimer's Day, from 1-3pm
