New York Auction on 8 October to Feature a Selection of Photographs from a Prominent Middle Eastern Watch Collector

Among the Masters of Photography to be Included
– Phillips is pleased to announce the offering of 11 photographs from a prominent Middle Eastern collection in its October New York Photographs auction. Assembled with a discerning collector's eye across categories, the group reflects the growing convergence between luxury collecting and fine art photography, bringing together iconic works by some of the medium's most celebrated artists, including Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Edward Burtynsky, Ansel Adams, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. While best known for collecting exceptional watches, the consignor has assembled a carefully curated group of photographs that reflects the same appreciation for craftsmanship, rarity, and lasting cultural significance that drives today's most sophisticated luxury collectors. This consignment underscores an important trend at Phillips, where collecting categories are increasingly interconnected: in 2025, 25% of bidders in New York Luxury sales were Fine Art clients, while 37% of high-value photography lots were either purchased or underbid on by Luxury clients.
Led by Helmut Newton's Elsa Peretti as a Bunny, Costume by Halston, New York, the selection spans nearly a century of photographic practice — from Man Ray's Surrealist L'Enigme d'Isidore Ducasse to Sugimoto's celebrated seascapes and theater works. The works represent an important part of the seasonal Photographs auction on 8 October, the public exhibition of which will be open from 2–7 October at 432 Park Avenue.
