Roxa Smith’s latest exhibition at C24 Gallery is wowing visitors with her bold, colorful portraits of interior spaces and the chairs and plants blooming within them. On Saturday, April 15th at 4:00PM, Smith will be leading an in-person tour of the paintings and collages featured in No Vacancy. The event is free and open to the public, but please RSVP: info@c24gallery.com

Here’s what people are saying about Smith’s work:

“Makes you glad to be alive.”

“It’s so nice to see bright colors again!”

“I feel like I’m falling into the room.”

From intricately drawn, miniature rooms to large-scale paintings of chairs and full-spectrum renderings of living spaces filled with meaningful objects and furnishings, Smith brings a vibrancy to her work that is undeniable. Both immersive and intricate, her paintings and collages invite the viewer to step into a layered world of beauty.

Influenced by her Venezuelan heritage, Smith incorporates elements of South American folk art into environments that are shaped by the juxtaposition of multiple angles of view, creating canvases that keep the eye moving, discovering new elements. For the artist, these personal depictions also contain layers of nostalgia as well as reflections of the world around us.

Join us on Saturday the 15th at 4:00 for an opportunity to meet Roxa Smithand learn more about her work and process. If you plan to attend, please remember to RSVP: info@c24gallery.com.

C 24 Gallery, End of year review!

 END OF YEAR PREVIEW

(L to R) Abi Salami, Micha Serraf

Dear C24 Gallery Community,

As we round out the year, we are ending on a note of gratitude for all our loyal friends, colleagues, collectors, and engaging visitors, the growing fellowship of our neighboring galleries and other local businesses, and the diverse group of artists who make up our unique roster.

Our next exhibition opening in January 2023 will feature two African artists whose journeys from their home countries have opened doors to the exploration of identity and placemaking.

New work in progress by Abi Salami

Abi Salami’s bold and suggestive paintings are an unapologetic response to the patriarchal objectification of Black women, influenced by her move from Nigeria to Dallas, Texas at the age of ten, and brought to new levels of raw grittiness by her recent relocation to New York City.

New work by Micha Serraf

Micha Serraf, whose family was forced to migrate from Zimbabwe to South Africa when he was just nine years old, has created a body of embroidered tapestries that conjure a state of simultaneous presence and displacement, informed by his refugee experience, his mixed racial identity, and his connection to the rich landscape of his new home.

More information coming soon...

Our last day of business before the holiday break will be this Friday, December 23rd. The Gallery will then be closed to the public until our next exhibition opens on Thursday evening, January 12th.

We wish you all a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Warm regards,
The C24 Gallery Team

Rock, Paper, Scissors:
Materiality, Duration and
Creative Partnership
Join us on Saturday, June 22nd from 4-6pm for a panel discussion about the artistic process and creative partnership behind the exhibit, Rock, Paper, Scissors, on view at C24 Gallery through June 29th.
The group show, presented in partnership with The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (EFA), features the work of C24 resident artist Seçkin Pirim along with EFA member artists Dana Levy, Cheryl Molnar and Suzanne Song. Curator David C. Terry has gathered a collection that offers a multi-faceted investigation of materiality as a tool of expression, through the mediums of stone, paper and the technological processes that illuminate and transform them.
The discussion, moderated by EFA Studio Program’s director, Bill Carroll and C24’s Deborah Oster Pannell, will feature artists Dana Levy, Cheryl Molnar and Suzanne Song in an exploration of their work, thematic concerns and participation in EFA’s Studio Program.
Light refreshments will be served.
