Art Plural Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of French artist Bernar Venet in Singapore.

BERNAR VENET: A SOLO EXHIBITION
26 SEPTEMBER - 24 NOVEMBER 2012

GRIB 3 2011 - Torch-cut waxed steel - 238 x 410 x 3.5 cm

Art Plural Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of French artist Bernar Venet in Singapore.

The exhibition runs from 26th September to 24th November 2012.

French artist Bernar Venet has been exploring the notions of indetermination, disorder, chance, and unpredictability with perseverance for decades. For this exhibition, Bernar Venet will show new sculptural reliefs from his GRIB series and paintings from his Saturation and Shaped Canvases series.

Today, I have much more freedom in my choice of subjects. I select them for their originality, for their remoteness, on the visual level, from anything, as far as I know, that other artists have ever painted. - Bernar Venet

Between Virtual and Virtuality - Mi Yuming Solo Exhibition

Between Reality and Virtuality

Mi Yuming Solo Exhibition
Exhibition May 3 - June 9, 2012
Opening Reception May 3, 6 - 8PM

ArtGate Gallery is pleased to announce Between Reality and Virtuality, a solo exhibition by Chinese photographic artist Mi Yuming. Between Reality and Virtuality blurs boundaries: the conventional photographs combined with contemporary digital techniques blur the boundary between photography and mixed media, while the surreal images question the line between reality and virtuality in our everyday lives. The exhibition will run from May 3 through June 9.

As inhabitants of a media-inundated world driven by consumerism, we are exposed to a constant stream of images, all of which are attempting to discreetly change the way we think. Mi Yuming invites the viewer to question whether their thoughts are affected by this manufactured reality, what is real and what is superficial. Her images are enlarged and exaggerated, a vivid combination of real life captured through a camera lens and a digitally created virtuality.  Mi’s virtual reality reveals her desire and struggle for individual existence.

Mi Yuming was born in 1978 in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia, China. She received an MFA from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Between Reality and Virtuality marks her first solo show in New York.
