News:Scottsdale and Everywhere else |

| Scottsdale: Development has no threshold, or so it appears. 6000 apartments still being built, homes still breaking records, and commercial developments coming to the City for approval is admirable and unbelievable. What does this mean to the art market here in Scottsdale? Although there are areas within the arts district that look tired, the thirst for culture and art is only intensifying with all of the influx of money entering our beloved city. Our gallery’s experience this Spring, post Scottsdale Art Week, has been jaw dropping. Over 5 Mihanovic originals sold, two Jean Lucs, an Alvar (c. 1963), and dozens of other pieces. A welcomed surprise for this Gallery. For our Holiday party this year, we are pivoting to a more curated experience…..an invitational versus an open call to artists. We are going to partner with Arizona Art Foundation (Non-Profit), which is a new entity created by owner to enhance and support all AZ institutions supporting the arts.
National: The whirlwind of news surrounding George Condo—his return to a mega-gallery and strong results for works on paper—signals a pivotal moment. The concentration of works at Sotheby's upcoming Contemporary Discoveries sale is a significant market event; watch these results closely, as they will set the tone for his market's next chapter. David Hockney's market continues to show remarkable depth, from major museum retrospectives to accessible prints at auction. For collectors, this offers multiple pathways for engagement. Consider the upcoming solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia not just as a viewing opportunity, but as a curatorial affirmation that could bolster the value of his print portraiture. The flurry of activity this week is a reminder that an artist's market is a dynamic ecosystem of gallery representation, auction performance, and institutional validation. The best collectors don't just track prices; they track the narrative. Pay attention to how these stories—gallery switches, legal outcomes, and curatorial choices—interconnect.
