 M Gallery of Fine Art SE LLC is pleased to present “Southern Dreams,” an exhibition featuring pastel artist Denise LaRue Mahlke. Mahlke is known nationally for her works depicting the beautiful scenery across the United States.  The show will be composed of pastel master works and hang from June 1^st – 30^th.

There is a quiet thoughtfulness and passionate purpose to the work of artist D. LaRue Mahlke.  Her paintings convey a sense of restfulness and peace that reflects the spiritual connection she feels for the landscape she loves. Denise believes that being an artist is a calling that involves preserving, celebrating, and sharing in God’s creation. This sense of having a calling, a God-given purpose, motivates her to paint from the heart and challenges her to continue to sharpen her skills, understanding, and dedication. “There is always more to learn and I have a responsibility to put forth my best efforts in the spirit of thanksgiving and praise. The opportunity to reflect the creative ingenuity and love of the Creator through my work is a privilege and a joy.”

Denise is a Signature member of the Pastel Society of America, and is also a member of Plein Air Austin and Central Texas Pastel Society.  Her work has been featured in American Artist, Pastel Journal, Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art, and Western Art Collector, and continues to gain national recognition and earn awards.  She is an invited artist to the prestigious Maynard Dixon Country show, which supports the Thunderbird Foundation for the Arts, and Artistic Horizons which benefits Arts Without Boundaries.

"Braving the New World" - Mary Martin Gallery

“BRAVING THE NEW WORLD”

AT MARY MARTIN GALLERY 

 

According to Randall LaGro, intuitive painter and printmaker, our world is definitely in a time of change and transition. LaGro speaks pertinently to the situation in his show, “Braving the New World”, which will be the featured show in April at the Mary Martin Gallery.

Opening reception will be held on the evening of April the 6^st from 5 pm to 8 pm.

 

Honoring the latent strengths and beauties of our human nature and the mystery which surrounds our lives is the theme. “This show is about the quiet glories of the human potential, our fellowship with creation and the conviction that we are bound to all of history and humanity”, states LaGro.

 

Using his signature artistic style, “Intuitive Poetic Realism and Abstraction”, LaGro combines elements of the conscious and the subconscious with the goal to encourage the viewer take on the subject and images as their own, finding their own story and wonderment.

Paintings, "Mystic Journey", "The child shall lead" and " Last of a species" are “poetic invitations to our primordial nature”; according to LaGro: “we are beings on a journey and what shall be the result is the ultimate question”. 

A graduate of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, LaGro has been living in Taos, New Mexico for more than eighteen years where he paints in the historic Joseph H. Sharp studio.

As well as being nationally acclaimed for his paintings, LaGro is recognized for his special technique that has raised the standard of monotype processing, a widely misunderstood medium. Technically a print in that it involves the transfer of image, monotypes however are one of a kind, singular pieces of artwork, not multiples prints. Several of LaGro’s monochromatic monotypes are part of the show.

LaGro’s symbolic and narrative paintings and monotypes are meant to be reflective and reminders of our human journey and our potential to be fully realized. “I feel a sense of urgency. However, rather than a shout, a rant or some kind of clever art speak, I'm relying on the recognition of the human voice. I paint the paintings intuitively; and I don't like to expound too much on my thoughts, but as an example of my fascination with the power of art” states LaGro.

CHARLESTON, SC (October 2011)- M Gallery of Fine Art SE is pleased to present “Master Works Duo Exhibition” featuring living masters Albert Handell and Clayton J. Beck, III.  The show will be composed of works from both artists in pastel and oil and will hang from November 4^th – November 30^th,. The opening reception will be held on Friday, November 4th, in tandem with the First Friday Art Walk. We will broadcast the event live on our website  www.mgalleryoffineart.com from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Albert Handell enrolled in the Art Students League of New York City to study drawing and anatomy with the late Louis Priscilla and the late Robert Ward Johnson. He also studied painting for two years with Frank Mason. From 1961 to 1965, Handell lived and traveled in Europe. In Paris, he painted independently in his own studio, working from the model at L’Ecole de la Grande Chaumiere and at the Louvre, copying the old masters. A 1980 trip to Santa Fe was life changing, sparking a love affair with the Southwestern landscape. He is a Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. He is one of only three living artists to be voted into the Pastel Society of America’s Hall of Fame. Handell currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and teaches nationally and internationally.


Born in Illinois, Clayton J. Beck, III studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, as well at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid.  His career began while attending the American Academy, exhibiting at Jody Kirberger’s Talisman Gallery. He has received awards of excellence and distinction from the Midwest Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, the Municipal Art League of Chicago, the Palette & Chisel and the Oil Painters of America.  He then began teaching in Chicago after graduation.

ART OF THE REAL: DAVID POXON RI

CHARLESTON, SC (September 2011)- M Gallery of Fine Art SE is pleased to present “Art of the Real,” an exhibition featuring watercolorists Angus McEwan RWS ARWS, David Poxon RI, Denis Ryan RWS and Sandra Walker RI. As with many movements in the history of art, these artists have come together in celebration of common ideals. The show will be composed of approximately 40 watercolors, with 10 pieces from each artist. The show will hang from April 6^th – April 30^th, after which time it will travel to other cities in the U.S. The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 6th, in tandem with the First Friday Art Walk.

David Poxon RI

The need to feel a strong personal connection to their subjects is evident throughout the groups’ work. David Poxon’s paintings of abandoned objects are visually stunning and denote a past – a hidden story of work and toil.  This is a recurring theme in his work, whether it’s a piece of machinery, a lock, a door, sometimes a mountain of old metal and broken tools, that are all in a state of reclamation by nature. What once were things created and used by man, then discarded, become objects of adornment.

When a painting works there is a resonance, which stretches beyond both subject and picture plane, reaching out to the viewer and transcending a mere visual experience. To be able to convey something of the 'real' of my subjects, which are the commonplace, the overlooked, the places and work things of mankind, is a powerful and stimulating experience, a joyful and respectful thing.
