For hundreds of years, many people’s understanding of Indigenous peoples, past and present, was shaped by myths, misinformation, and stereotypes.
Since its founding in 1989, the National Museum of the American Indian has challenged these harmful narratives and encouraged greater cultural understanding through dynamic exhibitions, engaging events, and innovative educational programs.
All the museum has done to honor and celebrate Indigenous arts, cultures, and histories—and everything we have planned for 2023 and beyond—would be impossible without the partnership of dedicated friends like you.
I want to personally thank you for supporting the museum in its efforts to tell the true stories of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas. The dedication and sincere generosity of our valued members has been instrumental in fulfilling the museum’s mission, and I want to share my gratitude as well as my excitement for what’s ahead of us this year.

Robert Houle: Red is Beautiful, which celebrates more than fifty years of this artist’s remarkable career, to our ongoing education initiatives like
Native Knowledge 360°, which brings Native perspectives into the classroom through historically accurate educational materials, your generous support enables the museum to continue pushing boundaries and fostering a deeper understanding of Native peoples—in collaboration, consultation, and cooperation with their communities.
Together, let’s continue to share the true story of the beauty, resilience, and richness of Indigenous cultures, arts, and histories.
