Modernism
Returning for its fourth season, Modernism comprises 63 lots by leading American and European avant-garde masters, showing the continued strength in demand for the category. The sale features rare and exceptional works by Surrealist masters including Salvador Dalí, Yves Tanguy, Man Ray, André Masson, Joan Miró, Victor Brauner, and David Smith. Leading the group is Dalí's rare Échecs (Hommage à Marcel Duchamp) (Chess, Homage to Marcel Duchamp). Created circa 1971, the complete set of 32 silver- and gold-vermeil chess pieces was cast from the artist's and his wife Gala's fingers, Dalí's teeth, and the salt and pepper shakers of New York's St. Regis Hotel. Of the intended edition of 45, only 8 examples were ultimately produced.
Also among the sale’s highlights are four exceptional Still Life etchings by Giorgio Morandi, including Grande natura morta con la caffettiera (Large
Still Life with Coffee Pot) from 1933. Widely regarded as the zenith of
Morandi's print-making oeuvre, the group demonstrates the artist's
Pablo Picasso
Portrait de jeune fille, d'après Cranach le
Jeune II (Portrait of a Young Girl, after
Cranach the Younger II), 1958
Estimate: $50,000–70,000
To be offered in Modernism unparalleled ability to transform familiar objects into deeply contemplative studies of form, light, and space.
Featured in Important Works from the Collection of Vivian Horan, the
respected New York dealer and founder of her eponymous gallery, Picasso’s Portrait de Jeune Fille, d'après Cranach le Jeune II (Portrait of a Young Girl, after Cranach the Younger II) is a rare trial proof printed on the reverse of a poster advertising a 1957 Vallauris ceramics exhibition. Likely among the earliest impressions pulled, the work offers a fascinating glimpse into Picasso's creative process and the development of what would become one of his most celebrated linocuts.
Post-War and Contemporary Works
Among the Post-War and Contemporary highlights from the Evening Sale is a remarkable group of 25 works by Andy Warhol, including iconic images, rare trial proofs, and early hand-colored lithographs. Leading the selection is Apple, from Ads; created in 1985, the work features the Macintosh logo at a moment when personal computing was rapidly reshaping contemporary culture. Also on offer is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, from Reigning Queens from 1985, which showcases Warhol's exploration of celebrity, power, and mass media through portraits of some of the world's most recognizable women. Mick Jagger from 1975 will also be on offer, signed by both the artist and the legendary Rolling Stones frontman.

Additional Evening Sale highlights include Roy Lichtenstein's complete portfolio La Nouvelle Chute de l'Amérique (The New Fall of America), 1992; Yayoi Kusama's whimsical and surreal Night, 1989; and David Hockney's celebrated Lithographic Water Made of Lines, Crayon and a Blue Wash, 1978-80, depicting one of the artist's most enduring motifs, the swimming pool.
The auction also features important editioned works by Donald Judd, Jeff Koons, and KAWS. Judd's Untitled, 1991, published by Edition Schellmann, originally conceived on a restaurant receipt, exemplifies the artist's rigorous approach to form, with precisely engineered planes of aluminum creating dramatic effects of light, shadow, and depth. Offering a distinctly contemporary counterpoint are Koons’ Seated Ballerina (Wood) from 2015 and KAWS's THE MESSAGE (2025), ambitious sculptural editions whose craftsmanship and scale blur the boundaries between editioned works and unique objects.
