CURATORS QUOTE

Disruption.  Reorganization.  A move to surprise, unsettle.  Or, in artistic terms, exactly that.

The abstract artist does not look at a canvas to recreate something seen but to reinterpret a confluence of things imagined.   Disruption is integral to the art sojourn.  Cubism challenged Impressionism and Dada and Surrealism moved the needle further until Abstract Expressionism arrived with less focus on the subconscious turmoil and more on the emotional intent.  The abstract artist presents the viewer with an invitation to ‘see what I see’ or ‘feel what I feel.’

Being our first spring exhibit, Shake It Up, seemed the perfect catalyst to encourage all to bloom.  Shake off any of those winter blues and re-ignite your passions.  As Picasso said, ‘Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

Aside from the two abstract artists featured in the exhibit, Shake It Up incorporates graffiti images that in their inherent inception and intent is to shake things up, alongside mixed media creations that juxtapose images in unexpected, yet surprising ways.  Diamond dusted icons make an appearance because, as the endless tabloids exposed, they always shook things up.   And then there are the photographs of legends who rattled the cage so loud it was deafening.

There is a certain beauty in the quiet but how lovely to have an alternative.

Astrinakis to be part of group, “Iconic Rock,” show featuring EJ Camp, Bonnie Lautenberg, Laura Benjamin, and Evad, opening reception to be held on Sunday, May 29th from 5pm – 7pm.

The White Room Gallery was  pleased to present a group exhibition of iconic rock n roll stars. “The Golden Age of Rock n Roll” show will run through June 5 2016 . The exhibition featured  Adoni Astrinakis, EJ Camp, Bonnie Lautenberg, Laura Benjamin, and Evad.

“The Golden Age of Rock n Roll” group show was the American debut for Adoni Astrinakis, who was born in Tasmania and now lives in Melbourne. For a few years after college, Adoni became CEO of a national healthy fast food chain that he turned profitable after several years. Not feeling fulfilled by the business world, he sold the business and decided to focus his efforts on painting.

Always inspired by pop culture, Adoni set out to paint a portrait of Bob Dylan. After posting it on Facebook and Instagram, Adoni very quickly started receiving inquiries for subsequent commissions. In his minimalist style, Adoni has painted icons such as Twiggy, Paul Newman, Tom Ford, Elvis, and Grace Kelly.

Adoni will be exhibiting three pieces from his “27 Club” collection: Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix. The term "27 Club" refers to a number of popular musicians who died at age 27.

“The Golden Age of Rock n Roll” will runhrough June 5, 2016. The artists will be present at the opening reception Sunday, May 29th from 5-7pm. Gallery hours are Thursday - Sunday 11-5 pm, appointments available Mondays and Tuesdays. For additional information please contact andrea@thewhiteroom.gallery.
