Join Showtime & NYWIFT for a free screening of Nothing Compares on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 at IFC Center A standout at the 2022 Sundance Festival, Nothing Compares charts Irish musician Sinéad OʼConnorʼs phenomenal rise to worldwide fame, and examines how she used her voice at the height of her stardom before her iconoclastic personality led to her exile from the pop mainstream. Focusing on Sinéad’s prophetic words and deeds from 1987 to 1993 and underpinned by a new interview with the artist herself, this archive-led documentary presents an authored, richly cinematic portrait of this fearless trailblazer through a contemporary feminist lens.       Date: Thursday, September 22nd, 2022 Time: 7:30pm Cost: Free Followed by a Q&A with director Kathryn Ferguson and NYWIFT member Beth Levison to follow. RSVP Panelists Belfast-born Kathryn Ferguson is an innovative and boundary-pushing director who has focused on short-form work centered on identity, gender politics and community. NOTHING COMPARES is her documentary feature directorial debut and was an official selection in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The film has gone on to win various awards at film festivals this year, including Best Irish Documentary at Galway Film Fleadh, the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Aegean Film Festival, and the Audience Award at Docs Ireland.   Beth Levison (moderator) is a NYC-based Emmy and Peabody-winning producer/director. Her most recent producing effort, THE MARTHA MITCHELL EFFECT (dirs. Anne Alvergue/Debra McClutchy, producing partner Judith Mizrachy), a 40-minute short about Watergate whistleblower and Republican cabinet wife Martha Mitchell, World Premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and launched on Netflix earlier this year.  Her previous film, STORM LAKE, which she directed/produced alongside director/DP Jerry Risius, premiered at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, won the Audience Award at AFI DOCS, broadcast on PBS’s Independent Lens, and was nominated for both a Peabody and an Emmy Award.  Other producing credits include WOMEN IN BLUE (Independent Lens, 2020), Emmy-nominated MADE IN BOISE (Independent Lens, 2019), Emmy-nominated PERSONAL STATEMENT (PBS, 2018), and 32 PILLS (HBO, 2017).  Levison is the founder of Hazel Pictures, a co-founder of the Documentary Producers Alliance, producing faculty with Sarah Lawrence College, and a member of the Academy. NYWIF call for submissions: The Women Calling the Shots showcase of short films made by women filmmakers will take place at the

The Women Calling the Shots showcase of short films made by women filmmakers will take place at the 30th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival (October 7th – 16th, 2022). A partnership between the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) and New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT), Women Calling the Shotsis in its 19th year. The series gives voice to the creative visions of women through film and video, including scripted, documentary, animation and experimental works. NYWIFT invites its members, as well as members of Women in Film organizations worldwide, to submit their short films for consideration for this program that is curated by NYWIFT and HIFF. No submission fee is required for applications. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES – SHORTS ONLY: Films must be 20 minutes or less in running time. (There will be no exceptions for films with extended running times.) – Completion Date: Films must have been completed after January 31st, 2021. – Previous submissions will not be accepted. – Submitted films must not have been released theatrically or have received a U.S. television broadcast. – Submitted films must not have been released publicly online prior to the festival. – You must be a member of NYWIFT or another WIFTI chapter in order to qualify. Submissions must be received by Friday June 24th, 2022 (11:59pm Eastern Time). (No exceptions for late submissions.) Please Note: Submitting a film for the Women Calling the Shots showcase does not qualify it as a submission for the main slate of The Hamptons International Film Festival. SUBMIT   ABOUT THE FESTIVAL The Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) was founded to celebrate independent film—long, short, fiction and documentary—and to introduce a unique and varied spectrum of international films and filmmakers to our audiences. The festival is committed to exhibiting films that express fresh voices and differing global perspectives, with the hope that these programs will enlighten audiences, provide invaluable exposure for filmmakers and present inspired entertainment for all. The festival is the premiere film event on New York State’s east end, and is an intimate showcase of some of the year’s best offerings in contemporary cinema from around the world. With cash and in-kind prizes handed out totaling more than $180,000, HIFF’s annual Film Festival hosts four distinct competitions, focused specifically on early-career filmmakers, bolstering their work at an important juncture, and gives six other awards: Conflict & Resolution, The Tangerine Female Filmmaker award, Social Justice award, Lifetime Achievement award, Creative Impacting in Acting award, and monetary awards for shorts by college students. The 2022 Hamptons International Film Festival will take place October 7-16, 2022.
