EJN is excited to announce the 16 CCMP fellows who will be covering COP31 in Türkiye this November. For the first time, our cohort will also include a couple of creator journalists who will be learning and exchanging skills and tips alongside more traditional journalists to make sure news about the summit can reach as wide an audience as possible.
We’re also very proud of the long list of awards recently won by EJN-supported collaborative reports, journalists, and network members. Our special report about the impacts of data centers in Asia, entitled “Dark Side of the Boom” was just one of several EJN-supported series in local media to be recognized for their outstanding achievements. EJN is also bringing you a brand-new Ask Me Anything video, discussing the all-important topic of Impact, sharing our latest tipsheet about reporting on forest health and illegal logging in Serbia, and providing updates from in-person EJN workshops hosted in Brazil and Kenya. EJN’s special collaborative reporting project, Dark Side of the Boomhas been named as winner of the Large Projects & Collaborations category at this year’s Covering Climate Now (CCNow) Journalism Awards, which honor excellent reporting on many critical dimensions of the climate story. A huge shout out to the entire EJN team and 14 newsrooms from 11 different countries, who collaboratively produced stories as part of this project, uncovering how data centers across Asia are booming at the cost of climate-vulnerable communities.
Also at the 2026 CCNow Journalism Awards, EJN fellows, Usraat Fahmidah and Rifat Anik (Bangladesh) were selected as winners under the category, Extreme Weather & Its Impacts, for their storyabout how sex workers in southern Bangladesh are frequently forced to dismantle and move their homes due to rising waters.
EJN’s former fellow, Aparna Ganesan (India) also took home a CCNow Journalism Award for her story on India’s solar boom, under the Justice category. Her story uncovered the renewable energy industry’s dark side, raising urgent questions about equity and community consent amid the world’s quest for clean energy.
We’re also excited to learn that our former fellows from Mexico, Iván Carrillo and Victor Rodriguez won two major awards for their reporting on protecting the ocean around Cabo Pulmo—earning a win under the Forests, Oceans, & the Natural World category of the 2026 CCNow Journalism Awards, and snagging second place at the 2026 Solutions Journalism Network Awards, under The Best of Solutions Journalism in Words, Large Outlet category.
Lastly, a big congratulations to José Ignacio Estupiñán (Colombia), who won the Silvia Galvis Journalism Award 2026 in the Regional Journalism Award category for his long-form piece, on how former caimán hunters have become the primary protectors of the species in Bahía Cispatá, after its near extinction in the area. This work was produced while Estupiñán was part of a cohort of journalists being trained and supported by El Colectivo 506—one of the grant recipients under EJN’s Biodiversity Media Initiative. | |

Introducing Informed Earth, a new climate and environment programme from Informed, formerly Internews Europe and Internews International
Over the past few months, a change has been taking place at Internews, the Earth Journalism Network’s parent organisation. Internews, which for the past decade has comprised of three organisations—Internews Network, Internews Europe and Internews International—is moving to a more independent operating model. Internews Europe and Internews International are excited to introduce a new shared identity, Informed, and its climate and environment programme, Informed Earth.
Internews Network will proudly continue to support the Earth Journalism Network in providing the many fellowships, training opportunities, grants, collaborative reports and other support services for journalists and content creators that you’ve come to expect from us.
What does this mean for you, EJN members?
Well, the projects run out of Internews Europe will now be run out of Informed Earth. And there are more new, diverse opportunities for journalists, content creators and media organisations to access funding, resources, training and other support.
