The Old First Ward is where our founder, Chris Kameck, grew up, and it's a neighborhood that means so much to both of us. That makes Saturday's Old First Ward Arts & Heritage Festival especially meaningful, a chance to celebrate this community and bring people together through art. We're especially grateful to Assemblyman Patrick Burke for his generous support in helping make this festival possible and for his continued partnership with Art Resource and TENfold Gallery. His commitment to this neighborhood reflects a belief we share: that the arts enrich community life and create welcoming opportunities to learn, connect, and create. This Saturday, we're thrilled to support Mirabo Press and Eat Off Art, the artist-run organizations currently on view in our Connector Gallery, by welcoming them to share their talents with you through free, hands-on workshops! A Space to Share, A Place to Connect Our Connector Gallery is an extension of our mission: supporting artists, making art accessible, and strengthening the creative community around us. By sharing this space with artist-run organizations like Mirabo Press and Eat Off Art, we introduce visitors to the people, ideas, and opportunities behind the work. We want you to find a print you love, learn about a workshop, follow an artist, or connect with an organization you hadn't known before. Each connection helps support the artists who make Western New York such a vibrant place to live and create. |

SAVE THE DATE! Join us next Friday, October 23, from 7–9 p.m., to celebrate the opening of Commotion, a solo exhibition by Buffalo artist Kyle Butler. We've loved following Kyle's creative process as our first Intensive Resident through The Raft Residency, presented in partnership with Mirabo Press and established in honor of Elisabeth Samuels. Now, we're thrilled to welcome you into the gallery to experience his work and celebrate this next chapter with us. Meet Kyle, explore the exhibition, and enjoy an evening of art and conversation with our creative community. We can't wait to share Commotion with you! Friday, October 23 | 7–9 p.m. TENfold Gallery |

In Commotion, Kyle Butler takes the familiar visual language of the built environment, roads, fences, signs, industrial structures, architectural fragments, and overlooked back lots, and pushes it somewhere less familiar. Butler's new paintings begin with imagery captured through mapping software. That imagery is distorted, manipulated, and reconstructed before being translated into paint, creating compositions filled with broken text, competing spatial cues, and fragments of recognizable places that never quite settle into a single view. The exhibition expands beyond painting to include unique screenprints and large-scale monoprints developed at Mirabo Press, as well as sculptural installations incorporating layered fields of chain-link fencing. Across painting, print, and sculpture, Commotion asks what happens when the structures designed to organize our surroundings begin to distort, overlap, and break apart. |

FROM RESIDENCY TO EXHIBITION The Raft Residency was created by Art Resource/TENfold Gallery, Mirabo Press, and the family of Elisabeth Samuels. Our goal was to honor Elisabeth's incredible work as an artist, educator, curator, gallerist and champion of the arts, and as a way to invest more deeply in the artists and ideas we bring into our spaces. The program began with exhibition booklets produced in conjunction with projects by DJ Carr and Abe Ferraro, creating a lasting record of their exhibitions and extending those projects beyond the gallery. This year, The Raft Residency took its next step. Kyle Butler became the first artist to undertake The Raft's intensive residency component, spending a concentrated week at Mirabo Press developing new work through screenprinting, monoprinting and collaboration. During the residency, Butler created unique prints and large-scale monoprints that extend the visual vocabulary of his paintings into new materials and processes. Some of those works now return to TENfold as part of Commotion, and Butler will also create an exhibition booklet through The Raft, continuing the publication component established with Carr and Ferraro. For us, this is what The Raft Residency is about, supporting artists not only when the finished work reaches the gallery wall, but during the experimentation, collaboration and making that happens before it gets there. From residency to exhibition, and beyond. |
