For Art Basel Paris, Catinca Tabacaru Gallery presents Have No Doubt of the Omnipotence of a Free People, a research-based exhibition curated by Raphael Guilbert and organized by Catinca Tabacaru.

The project brings to light a largely overlooked chapter of history: Romania’s relationship with anti-colonial liberation movements and, in particular, its involvement in Zimbabwe’s struggle for independence during the 1970s. Developed through archival research in Romania and Zimbabwe, first-hand testimonies from liberation veterans, and commissioned scholarship, the project traces the cultural, political and personal exchanges between the two countries.

Presented in Bucharest in 2025–2026, the exhibition brought together 67 Romanian and Zimbabwean artists, with works spanning from 1960 to the present. It was accompanied by a two-day symposium and the launch of the Second World digital archive, making newly recovered documents publicly available for the first time. The resulting publication, published by DISTANZ, launches at Art Basel Paris.

At Art Basel Paris, a capsule of the project brings together 19 Romanian and Zimbabwean artists across generations. Their works consider liberation and its aftermath, collective memory, inheritance and transmission—how histories move between generations, and how the promises of freedom continue to be questioned, reconstructed and reimagined.
