We are thrilled to announce the opening of art + cars, presented by General Motors in collaboration with Bedrock and ArtClvb at Hudson’s Detroit, GM’s new corporate headquarters in Downtown Detroit.

ART + CARS IS NOW OPENDetroit’s creative identity has always been shaped by the intersection of art, design, engineering, and manufacturing. The automotive industry transformed the city into a global center of innovation, while generations of artists, designers, architects, musicians, and makers built a creative culture defined by craftsmanship, experimentation, and bold ideas. art + cars brings these parallel histories together, presenting original contemporary artwork alongside GM concept vehicles and exploring the connections between art, design, materials, and mobility.
Presented during Detroit Month of Design, the exhibition celebrates Detroit’s shared spirit of creativity and innovation while looking toward the artists, designers, and ideas shaping the city’s creative future.
Now open to the public at Hudson’s Detroit.
The art + cars exhibit at GM's Entrance One will run through Nov. 1, and is open daily to the public 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Entrance One 1232 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226 (corner of Woodward Avenue and Nick Gilbert
Way).

Ijania Cortez is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, muralism, and installation. Drawing inspiration from Detroit’s industrial landscape, Black culture, neon signage, and the contemporary cityscape, her work explores identity, resilience, and the relationship between inner light and man-made environments. Her work has been exhibited at Cranbrook Art Museum, Detroit Artists Market, Museum of Design Detroit, Playground Detroit, and M Contemporary Gallery. Cortez is a recipient of the Kresge Gilda Award.

Patrick Ethen is a light artist and designer, known for installations which explore the production of emergent behavior, the relationship between analog and digital systems, and the role of the human hand in a digital age.
Describing his practice as a sort of “pseudo-spiritual techno-futurism,” his work is a commentary on the role of technology and its influence on society. He uses light as a medium to explore emergent behavior, using meticulously wired arrays of electronics to build installations which envelop the viewer in
a meditative, immersive aura which feels simultaneously human and artificial. |

Cathy Jacobs creates woven, three-dimensional artworks that blur the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and textiles. Layering hand- and industrially woven panels, she creates vibrant fields of color, texture, and dimension. Jacobs received her BFA in Painting from Wayne State University and later explored weaving and textiles while pursuing her MFA at Eastern Michigan University. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, including at the South Bend Museum of Art, World of Threads Festival, Architectural Digest Design Show, SOFA Expo, and Cluster Crafts in London.

Blythe McCaig is a Metro Detroit-based ceramic artist and the creator behind Evet Ceramics. Evet Ceramics, McCaig specializes in creating handmade pottery that intricately balances form and function. McCaig is pursuing an Interdisciplinary Art + Design degree at CCS in Detroit, with an expected graduation year of 2027.

Sandra Osip, a Detroit based sculptor. Osip was born in Detroit, Michigan and received a BS from Wayne State University, and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She has received two Michigan Council of Arts awards, and a commission titled “Progression”, for the Detroit People Mover at the Fort/Cass Station. Osip’s artwork was represented by the Hill gallery in Birmingham, MI., and Carl Hammer gallery, Chicago, with work in various art collections including the Detroit Institute of Art, Robert and Karen Duncan, Ray-O-Vac, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and 1st. National Bank of Chicago. |

Bilge Nur Saltik is a Detroit-based designer, maker, and Associate Professor of Product Design at Lawrence Technological University. She holds an MFA in Design Products from the Royal College of Art, London. Her work explores the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary technologies, reinterpreting ceramics, glass, and 3D printing to create objects that are both functional and poetic. |

KACEYKAL is a visual artist, illustrator, and painter whose practice blends abstraction and figuration. Using bold color, dynamic forms, and layered compositions, his work explores intimacy, desire, isolation, masculinity, and the human form. |

Matthew Shlian works in the realm between art and science, guided by wonder and rooted in print media, book arts, and commercial design. His sculptural forms are inspired by organic material and iterative patterns, each piece mapped out digitally, and then folded and assembled by hand. Shlian was the first artist awarded the Frederick Hammersley Artist Residency for 2017-2018. He holds an MFA in Print Media and Paper Engineering from Cranbrook Academy (2006) and a BFA in Printmaking and Sculpture from Alfred University (2002). |

Phillip Simpson, Detroit based artist and muralist, is dedicated to spreading joy worldwide through his vibrant art. From illuminating city streets to uplifting community centers, Phillip's colorful smile paintings are a beacon of positivity. Raised in Detroit's East Side, Phillip's journey began with a childhood passion for drawing. Despite the challenges of his surroundings, he found solace in art, choosing creativity over negative influences. Inspired by his experiences at the University of Michigan School of Art & Design, Phillip developed his signature style, blending realism with symbolism. |

INDIA SOLOMON is a Detroit-based, abstract visual artist raised on the city's Westside. India creates as a means of ancestral way-finding through the cultures that make her whole, creating micro-maps of experience as a nonverbal story of how she came to be. Solomon's work tells the story of finding joy through difficult but necessary transitions. A refection of movement itself, her work blends space, shapes and unified contrast in ways that invoke a distinct sense of home, and redefine how
cultural work is expressed and recognized. |

Vaughn Taormina was born in Southeld, Michigan, and grew up in and around Detroit’s west side. He went to The Cooper Union in New York in 2007 and graduated with a bachelors in ne art in 2011. Taormina then moved back to Detroit where he has been working as a full-time artist ever since. Taormina is a 2026 Gilda Award recipient. |
