PHILLIPS’ LONDON SALES OF MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART TOTAL £21.5 MILLION
Saturday Sale Led by Georg Baselitz and Michelangelo Pistoletto, alongside a World Auction Record for Hassan Sharif

Charlotte Raybaud, Senior Specialist, Head of Sale, Director, Modern & Contemporary Art, London, said, “We were delighted with the results achieved in today’s sale, led by Georg Baselitz’s Transmission, which achieved more than four times its pre-sale estimate, and Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Donna sullo sgabello, which more than doubled its estimate. Andy Warhol’s Lenin also achieved three times its pre-sale estimate, further demonstrating the strength of the contemporary blue-chip market. We were also pleased to see an auction record for Hassan Sharif, alongside excellent results for auction newcomers Emma Prempeh, Kaloki Nyamai, and Justin de Verteuil. Ahead of this week’s sales, we were thrilled to broker the private acquisition of 22 works from the Dartington Hall Collection for the nation, supported by Art Fund. The energy of Frieze Week has been electric in the saleroom, and we look forward to carrying this momentum into our Vente Art Moderne & Contemporain et Design in Paris on 21 October.”
