NEW YORK, NY — Gallery Onetwentyeight is proud to present the "1st Contemporary JOMON Art Exhibition in New York," running from October 13 through October 25, 2026.

This landmark exhibition brings together a dynamic collaboration of contemporary artists exploring the profound spirit of the Jomon period through paintings, sculptures, installations, and multimedia performances.

We currently live in an uncertain era, constantly questioning where tomorrow’s world is headed. It is precisely during such times that we feel compelled to reflect on the Jomon spirit—a unique culture that flourished across the Japanese archipelago for approximately 14,000 years. The iconic forms of Jomon pottery and Dogu (clay figurines), familiar to anyone with an awareness of Japanese history, are far more than mere historical relics.

They convey a timeless, universal wisdom that continues to resonate across generations. At its core, this philosophy embodies a deep reverence for the earth and a spirit of living in seamless harmony with nature. It was under this profound worldview that humanity sustained a remarkable 14,000-year period entirely free of war.

This exhibition aims to express the Jomon spirit through the lens of contemporary art, sharing its universal significance and future possibilities with a global audience. Visitors are invited to experience this extraordinary intersection where ancient wisdom meets modern creativity.
