Today is Opening Day! It’s finally here! The Toronto Biennial of Art is proud to be celebrating the official Opening Day of our fourth edition, Things Fall Apart. Rebecca Belmore’s new work, Gichigami, opens as a procession that moves from Queen’s Park to the University of Toronto, where it will remain on view as an installation at the Art Museum for the duration of the Biennial. Please join our waitlist using this link In collaboration with Bongo & B Entertainment and Ballet Creole, co-presented with the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, Hart House, and the Art Museum, Barontini brings a celebratory, carnival-style street parade to the U of T campus. Blending percussion, indigo costumes, banners, and flags, this parade honors historical figures of anti-enslavement resistance while celebrating contemporary Caribbean traditions of emancipation. Programs on Tomorrow: Sunday, September 27 Soul Hex (2026) Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde.  Interdisciplinary digital performance incorporating 3D modelling and motion-capture 3D. Co-presented with the Art Museum at the University of Toronto and made possible with the generous support of the Women Leading Initiative Opening Weekend Dialogue: Speculative Futures Sunday, September 27 at 10:30 AM | Harbourfront Centre Studio Theatre Free,  register using this link Join Curator Allison Glenn for a moderated discussion with Biennial artists Andrés Ramírez Gaviria, Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde, and Regina de Miguel, as they dive into notions of time, science fiction, Indigenous epistemologies, and speculative futures. Co-presented with Harbourfront Centre.  Brendan Fernandes, The Calls (2023) Live and recorded performance, sonic composition, and choreography. Co-presented with TO Live Opening Weekend Performance: The Calls (Toronto) by Brendan Fernandes Sunday, September 27, Sailings at 12PM & 2:15PM The Tall Ship Kajama, docked directly behind the Harbourfront Centre and the Power Plant buildings  This event is at capacity. Please join our waitlist using this link Co-presented with TO Live, this immersive sonic and movement performance takes place aboard the Kajama, a tall ship sailing Lake Ontario. Two contemporary dancers, alongside an 18-voice Modern Sound Collective choir vocalizing abstract sounds and sirens, reimagine collective gathering, grief, and solidarity on an embodied journey across the water. In addition to these programs, special viewings, openings and remarks will be presented during our Opening Weekend.
