Writers & Books joins us as this week's 6x6 Pics Curator. Chosen by owners Tyler Barton and Michael Solis, they shared more about the Writers & Books curation and perspective: "We looked at this year's 6x6 through the lens of text. The works we selected employ words, language, and letters in ways that reveal truth and subvert expectations to make a beautiful and dynamic pieces of art. We were delighted by how often poetry, authors quotations, and found text were central to hundreds of different contributions to this years 6x6, proving that writing and art are one and the same. We see here how writing inspires visual art, and how writing also becomes a material, like paint or ink, for creation and communication. As Writers & Books prepares writing workshops at both RoCo and the Medina Triennial this summer, we're also thinking about how a work of visual art can inspire a piece of writing. Writers (and writing) have been an essential part of the Rochester-area arts ecosystem forever, so we wanted to acknowledge that tradition with our choices this year. Writers & Books promotes reading and writing as lifelong activities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enrich their lives and the intellectual, social, and cultural vibrancy of their communities." Writers & Books is currently open 3-8 pm Wednesday and Thursday, and 11-5 Friday and Saturday. Visit them at 740 University Ave, or at writersandbooks.org and on Instagram @writersandbooks. |
