The Festival presents a sophisticated palette of events: exceptional fine art and contemporary craft, art installations, superb entertainment, and interactive arts experiences for all ages.  Salina is widely acknowledged as an Outstanding Arts Community...where recognition at national levels is a frequent occurrence within its remarkable array of established cultural organizations and offerings...where art and culture are a $23 million industry annually.  A model in its rich cultural landscape, Salina is a vibrant example of a community that grows, thrives and reaches for the future, through the arts.

Community ownership is exemplified in the commitment of over 2,000 enthusiastic volunteers and an extensive base of financial support.  75,000 attendees enjoy the artistic excellence and outstanding hospitality which continue to define the event.  A thriving Art Patron Program boasts over $130,000 in purchases.

We welcome your application to the Fine Art Show (90 exhibitors) and Four Rivers Craft Show (50 exhibitors).  These two outstanding venues are highly acclaimed among artists for incredible organization, quality of exhibition, artist hospitality, sales promotion, and community support.  The Festival has earned a stellar reputation as an award winning and well juried visual arts venue.  Both shows are recognized by many artists' resource publications online and in print, including ArtFair SourceBook, The Crafts Report, and Sunshine Artist, with extensive statewide and regional marketing.

Wait Watchers: A Series of Photographs by Haley Morris Cafiero

Wait Watchers: a series of photographs by Haley Morris Cafiero

Opening Reception: Friday, October 7, 6 P.M. - 9 P.M, screenings 6:30, 7:30, 8:30.

FilmsOnArtists is proud to present a short documentary (runtime: 6 mins) on performance photographer Haley Morris-Cafiero, winner of FOA's International Juried Competition 2010.

Morris-Cafiero was selected out of field of several hundred global artists and out of a curated show of 40 artists to win a solo show and a documentary created by FilmOnArtists.

Wait Watchers is a series of photographs where Morris-Cafiero reverses the gaze of strangers reacting to her performing mundane tasks in public by documenting their reactions to her with her camera.  By placing her camera out in public and aiming the camera at her, Morris-Cafiero does things that everyone does in public: talk on the phone, eat a cup of gelato, wait for a cab. But while doing these acts, Morris-Cafiero records the unsolicited reaction of people who walk by and react by sneering, laughing and gawking.

Haley Morris-Cafiero is a photographer based in Memphis. She uses film and digital rangefinders to capture her images. The unaltered images are printed using digital processes. Haley received her MFA in Art from the University of Arizona and her BFA in Ceramics and BA in Photography from University of North Florida. She is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Photography Department at Memphis College of Art.

Her work can be seen on her website atwww.haleymorriscafiero.com.

DANNY AIELLLO SHINES

JAMIE ELLIN FORBES/ © Fine ArtMagazine Fall 2011... Danny Aiello, one of the greatest and most recognized actors of our era, a movie star in anybody’s book, has a love of singing which he has been able to share with the world over the past few years via the release of a series of compact discs, featuring impeccable musicianship and production to showcase his thoroughly entertaining voice. As you can imagine, Aiello’s tastes are old school and his renditions of such chestnuts as “Beyond the Sea” and “All of Me” among many others, wowed the crowd at the Patchogue Theater Saturday night, October 1. He delivered fresh, energetic performances of standards from his recordings but the show stopper was a duet of “Besame Mucho” with producer/rapper Hasan from Danny’s most recent release, “Bridges”, a collaboration of standards with hip hop, which could easily be a fit for a Grammy performance. Why not for this Academy Award winning actor? It was a great pleasure to watch Danny deliver and his love of the music is ineffable. All of Aiello’s considerable drive, charisma, and power was enjoyed by the audience, in the terrifically well orchestrated and staged concert. For a real treat, check dannyaiello.com for future shows, watch the “Besame Mucho” video and buy his CDs — you will be transported to a very cool place.
