The strength of the category across the board was underscored by bidders participating from nearly 50 countries on the phones, online, and in our saleroom at 432 Park Avenue. Collectors vied for works spanning the 20th and 21st centuries – from Camille Pissarro to Andy Warhol, Lee Krasner to Jean-Michel Basquiat, setting over 60 new auction records. Modernist female artists such as Sonia Delaunay, Francoise Gilot, Meret Oppenheim and Louise Bourgeois attracted some of the most spirited bidding of the day, along with record prices in our Contemporary Day Sale session from Katherine Bernhardt, John Wesley and Damien Hirst, as well as, in our Post War Day sale session from Agnes Martin, Vija Celmins and Robert Ryman.
