STAY CONNECTED SUPPORT ISLIP ARTS April 14, 2023 JOHN P. CARDONE APRIL FEATURED ARTIST APRIL 12th - May 11th John P. Cardone is a Long Island author, photographer, lecturer, and photography instructor. While he studied photography back in his college days, he never really had a subject that interested him. He started taking outdoor photos over twenty years ago, not long after his friend Nick pushed him into kayaking in 2002. At first, he took pictures to show his family and friends the beautiful sights he found while kayaking the Long Island waterways. One day a few years back, while commenting on the beauty of his photographs and listening to John's kayaking stories, a close friend of his said, "John, you're a writer - you should write a book." In the summer of 2013, he published his first non-fiction book, Waterviews: A Collection of Photographs. Thoughts, and Experiences. And again, a friend commenting on his unique photos suggested that he print and sell them. Hence, the collection of outdoor photographs entitled, Waterviews, Waterscapes, and Wildlife. As the years went by, John continued to spend time photographing nature and writing additional books. John P. Cardone retired in December 2018 after 40 years as a writer/producer of patient education, medical education, and health promotion videos. His company, Hospital Video Network, Inc. founded in 1984 served a long list of healthcare and business clients. These days, he actively spends his time inspiring people to get outdoors with nature. John is an author, a nature photographer, a wildlife photography instructor, and a lecturer on nature topics. John grew up in Astoria, NY moving to Long Island, NY after his military service in 1970. John is proud to say he is the founder of the Long Island Authors Group and a two-time cancer survivor. In my waterscape & wildlife images, I try to capture the beauty and spiritual magnificence of nature. My photographs represent a moment in time through unique natural settings and the amazing personalities of wildlife. I am particularly interested in how nature can calm people's minds while they take a "time out" from their hectic, busy lives. This incredible opportunity emanated from Islip Arts Council's Veterans Exhibition in 2022, sponsored by Legislator Steve Flotteron and Good Samaritan University Hospital. John Melillo, who is a disabled Vietnam Veteran surviving PTSD through Art shared his experience and taught a 101 Art class to other disabled Vietnam Veterans, some suffering from PTSD, as projections of paintings by Vincent Van Gogh surrounded them. The painters said it was a great inspiration to paint inside this immersive exhibition space!"
