ADAM HANDLER  Punk Ghost, 2023. Bronze, Ed. 1/8, 11 in. (approx.) | $6,500

As an artist who has fashioned a distinctive, faux naïf style over the past 10 years, Contemporary American phenom ADAM HANDLER's works are rooted in an autobiographical process of purging his thoughts, passions, and insecurities. His child-like cast of characters have a deep connection to his inner self and is a reminder to live life to the fullest.

Continuing to extend his artistic practice, Handler has now expanded into sculpture. Transforming one of his most popular and endearing Ghosts, 'PUNK GHOST', Handler's first sculpture features a smiling, cherubic-cheeked 'ghost' handmade in bronze in a limited edition of 8.

In creating this labor-intensive new body of work, Handler translates his drawings and paintings into a digital STL file to construct a 3D print mold. The molten bronze is then poured into the mold and after grinding, sanding, and welding, the final step of adding patina is incorporated using various heat sources and acid washes.

“It's hard to be simple. It's one of the hardest things... to stop”

Handler's iconoclastic works are informed by an array of art historical and cultural influences, from Medieval and Renaissance art, Folk and Outsider art, and artists such as De Kooning, Basquiat, and others. Engaging and anarchistic in its simplicity, Handler's art is a unique balance of reverence and esteem for traditional art forms and his need to create an authentic, singular mode of artistic expression
