Exhibition:

The Black Iconic

February 2 - March 31

The new solo exhibition “The Black Iconic” from Newark-based artist Ricardo Osmondo Francis features a wide array of Francis’ luminous paintings and is a brooding elegiac vision of the Black visage delineated in both grand decadence and technically through densely evocative images that are steeped in multicultural symbolism. Francis’ work is inspired by the complexity of African American identity, mythology, and painting itself, and examines how Black people are perceived both socially and politically on the world stage through a spiritual gaze. The exhibition runs through March 31, 2023 and is curated by Bint-Kadi.

Daughters of the Revolution

Ricardo Osmondo Francis was born September 8, 1976, in Houston, Texas. He attended the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD, and received a BFA in 1998 in painting. Inspired by Classical art, multi-ethnic antiquity, and present day advertisement imagery, Francis’ vivid pictorial works present a torrent of imagery culled from every possible corner of the visual culture. His lush elaborately graphic surrealistic paintings and drawings often depict the social constructs of humanity and the complexity of our existence through conceptually layered portraiture, still life, and abstract compositions.

Riverfront Art Gallery exhibits contemporary, nationally, and internationally acclaimed artwork. The mission of the gallery is to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of fine arts and the public’s interest and participation therein; To foster and support the arts in the community and to serve as a portal to the arts for residents and community members; To create opportunities for the public to encounter and explore art that they might not otherwise be exposed to, increasing access to the arts in the City of Yonkers and surrounding communities.

Winter Exhibition

January 28 - March 3

US+U/Warburton Galerie is pleased to announce our Winter Exhibition Jan 28-March 3, 2023 with special guest co-curator Tommy the Animator. Tommy the Animator grew up on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Born in 1972, he was influenced by some of the world’s most revered breakdancers and graffiti artists including the late Frosty Freeze (RSC), Charlie Rock (RCB) and George "SEN-ONE" Morillo (IBM). Tommy quickly embraced Hip Hop culture, diving in as a young breakdancer and then later as a music producer/MC.

Over the years, Tommy has become a master of multiple art disciplines and his paintings have been exhibited internationally. In December 2018, One Art Space presented Lyrics, a groundbreaking exhibition that showcased a series of Tommy’s abstract contemporary paintings infused with the lyrics of Hip Hop icons, Ice T, Kool Keith, Melle Mel, Large Professor and Smoothe Da Hustler. The innovative collaboration between the six artists, a true fusion of visual art and musical art, achieved widespread acclaim.
