Swiss artist, Ugo Rondinone, is well-known for larger-than-life temporary sculptures and his new exhibition at the Museum of Art and History in Geneva is no exception. The Financial Times details Rondinone’s homage to the history of the museum and the country in his latest show, when the sun goes down the moon comes up. In this exhibition, he features keys works by the Swiss artists Ferdinand Hodler (1853-1918) and Félix Vallotton (1865-1925) as well as more than 300 historical artifacts ranging from drawings to clocks. ‘Hodler and Vallotton represent contradictory, codependent and complementary views of 19th-century art movements,’ says Rondinone. ‘While Hodler’s symbolism has his foot in the past, Vallotton’s post-Impressionism marks the beginning of Modernism.’ Spanning 13 rooms, the exhibit is vast and full of personality. Visitors can see a room full of glass horses, nude portraits, and even secret doors which only open when approached. The exhibition runs from January 26 to July 18 2023.
