Norman Public Arts Board Seeks Proposals
For West Main Street Sculptures
DEADLINE: JULY 20, 2012 by 4:00pm
On
behalf of the Norman Arts Council and the City of Norman, the Norman
Public Arts Board seeks to purchase two pieces of permanent outdoor
sculptures for placement in "traffic bumps outs" at the corners of West
Main/ Webster and West Main/ Santa Fe. The two pieces will be selected
independent of each other.
The
goal of this project is to enhance the heavily trafficked intersections
that visually anchor the downtown arts district. This area also serves
as a pathway to several churches in an established neighborhood, the
public library, City of Norman Complex, and acts as one of many
entrances to the University of Oklahoma.
The
installation should embody a theme representative of central Oklahoma.
This theme could relate, but is not to be limited to any
characteristics on this list: Oklahoma weather, Native American
heritage, civic character, complexity of a university city, cultural
diversity of the third largest city in the state, the pioneer spirit,
and the natural habitats or environment of the area. The style of the
sculpture may be a traditional, architectural, figurative, or
contemporary interpretation of the theme and may be made of any
material.
