Barry X Ball premiered his NFTs titled Granulo-Specular Chiaroscuro Meta-Morphs (Alchemic Black Steel, Alchemic Gold, Alchemic Silver, Alchemic Copper). The artist is known for his sculptures which utilize cutting edge techniques and materials, all while drawing inspiration from classical reference points. His new NFTs transform a selection of his physical sculptures into 3D digital images with ultra-high surface detail designed to replicate the experience of tactility. The digital pieces utilize LG’s state-of-the-art OLED Evo TVs to accurately reproduce the textures and colors of the precious metals and gemstones comprising their physical sculptural counterparts.

“LG’s truly innovative technology was an integral part of my work, enabling me to explore new possibilities in the digital art space,” said Barry X Ball.

Barry X Ball’s NFTs are the first release and drop on LG Art Lab, LG Electronics’ very own non-fungible token platform (NFT). Accessible directly from the TV’s Home Screen, the new platform enables users to buy, sell, and enjoy high-quality digital artwork in their homes. Delivering outstanding picture quality and offering several large screen sizes to choose from, LG’s state of the art TVs are the ideal medium for exhibiting and enjoying NFTs and digital art works in the home, gallery or museum.

At Frieze Seoul, LG continues its ongoing collaboration with the esteemed British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor. The LG OLED Lounge at Frieze features Kapoor’s first digital work, Wounds and Absent Objects. The 8-minute video captures Kapoor’s exploration of colors—an extension of the artist’s ongoing investigation captured here in advanced video. Inspired by the technological capabilities of the world’s first rollable OLED TV, the LG Signature OLED R, each color in the video makes a soft, perfect transition, repeatedly moving and expanding through a series of deep full hues.

Anish Kapoor stated: “More and more I wanted to make work towards experiences and away from form, in a way that something literally draws you in, that literally gives you a sense of vertigo, disorientation, whatever, so it becomes more and more a physical experience.”

The LG SIGNATURE OLED R Anish Kapoor Edition is also displayed at Frieze Seoul. The exclusive, special-edition model includes Kapoor’s media artwork complete with an artist signed and numbered certificate.

Barry X Ball and Anish Kapoor’s works are displayed on LG OLED Objet Collection models Easel and Posé, LG’s new lifestyle TV models, which utilize millions of self-lit pixels to deliver true color, with an infinite contrast ratio.

LG’s Kate Oh comments: “Both artists are renowned for their thought-provoking sculptures and innovative use of materials. We are thrilled to showcase their unique talents as they explore the expanding possibilities of digital technology in their work using LG OLED as their medium. At Frieze Seoul, LG continues its commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and visual experience — elevating life and art though the self-lit picture quality of its peerless OLED TVs.”

As Global Partner of Frieze, LG continues to provide enriching art experiences around the globe, hosting exclusive exhibitions and events that highlight and explore the intrinsic link and harmony between art and technology. Its OLED ART project continues to produce memorable artist collaborations expanding the definition of art, while providing inspiring new viewer experiences.

About Barry X Ball
Barry X Ball is a contemporary sculptor based in New York. His work has been widely exhibited internationally over the last 35 years and is represented in many public and private collections. The artist’s sculptures, although paying reverent homage to their historical antecedents, are radically new. Through the use of unconventional materials and innovative methods, the artist has reinvigorated the age-old tradition of figurative sculpture. Ball employs an elaborate array of equipment and procedures to realize his works, ranging from the cutting edge to the traditional. With their simultaneous fever-pitch intensity and surreal stillness, Barry X Ball’s bravura works make an expansive case for the reconsideration of contemporary sculptural practice.
