Haines Gallery is pleased to present Speak to the Stones, and the Stars Answer, an exhibition bringing together the recent photography of celebrated Bay Area photographer Linda Connor and sculptures by Beijing-based artist Zhan Wang. Glistening works in aluminum and stainless steel pull us away from the everyday to reveal processes both ancient and ageless, and invite us to consider our place in the world.
Speak to the Stones comprises a selection of Connor's most iconic images - jagged cliff faces of Northern India, petrified bodies from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, astronomic images from antique glass plate negatives - presented as sublimation prints on aluminum panels. These are exhibited in dialogue with Zhan Wang's highly reflective Artificial Rock sculptures, which reinterpret the traditional Chinese scholar's rock in contemporary stainless steel.
