Mark Fell is an electronic musician based in Sheffield, UK, and one half of the experimental music duo SND. His work is created from variations on algorithmic and pattern-generating systems, producing non-repetitive structures that are equally influenced by house and techno music of the late 80s and early 90s. Recent albums such as Multistability and UL8 explore a number of timing and tuning systems rooted in non-Western music, with Fell asserting that “music is a technology for constructing an experience of time.” His set at Artists Space marks a rare institutional solo performance for New York City, departing from his recent recorded works and research undertaken during a residency at EMPAC, in Troy, NY.

Fell received an honorary mention in the digital music category at Prix ARS Electronica, and was shortlisted for the Quartz award for his contributions to research in digital music. Currently a 2013 Artist-in-Residence at Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), Troy, New York, he has made presentations at various festivals and venues including Trouw, Amsterdam; Cave12, Geneva; Norberg Festival, Sweden; Yale Union, Portland; and Soup, Tokyo. In addition to his creative practice, Fell has been involved in a number of academic research projects ranging from computer science to musicology.
