"This is an important exhibition for the Dishman Art Museum and the Lamar community," said Megan Young, director of the Dishman and assistant professor of art. "We have strong ties to New Orleans through our shared geography and history of devastating storms, but more importantly we have creative ties that have worked to ensure that our community does not falter in the face of such adversity. This exhibition is a celebration of those ties."
Jonathan Ferrara is a New Orleans artist, gallery owner, community activist and arts entrepreneur. His gallery exhibits cutting edge works of art from local, national and international artists including paintings, sculpture, glass, metal works, mixed media and installation art. Exhibitions he has produced have been featured in The New York Times, Time magazine, Art In America, ARTPAPERS, ART News, The Associated Press, ELLEMagazine, NPR and on ABC's Good Morning America and in numerous local, national and international publications.
"I am thrilled to be working with Jonathan Ferrara as co-curator of this exhibition and bring such a phenomenal and talented group of artists to Lamar," said Young. "The artists represented in this exhibition are all excellent and our students will benefit greatly from exposure to such diverse media and conceptual concerns."
