FOX Audience Strategy with FOX Broadcasting and FOX Searchlight Presents: Casting in the New America

Top executives at FOX who are involved in film and television give an insider's perspective on casting shows to reflect the growing diversity of America's population. Their expertise in the areas of distribution, marketing and production will be shared in vibrant presentations and a discussion to follow. They will highlight opportunities and challenges presented by the multicultural shift that becomes more pronounced in every new U.S. Census report.
The conversation will focus on several viewpoints and perceptions related to a variety of different media platforms. This session takes place just after the FOX-TV upfront advertising presentation for the 2013/2014 TV season. The panelists are ready and willing to answer questions from the audience.

Keli Goff is a Political Correspondent for TheRoot.com. As a political analyst, Goff has appeared on more than 100 national and international news programs for the networks BET, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, and the BBC. Her work regularly appears on the homepage of the Huffington Post and has also appeared in the publications Cosmopolitan, Time, Essence and The Daily Beast. Goff's work has been the subject of coverage in Vanity Fair, The New York Times, USA Today and many other outlets. She is cited as an expert source in the book The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging and profiled in the book No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power.
Cristina Mancini is Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. Responsible for publicity, creative services, corporate communications and online web and social media activity, Mancini’s teams create and manage marketing and publicity support for all television distribution initiatives. She has overseen campaigns for Glee, Modern Family, Simpsons, 24, Touch as well as The Americans produced by FX Productions.
Zola B. Mashariki is currently a Senior Vice President of Production at Fox Searchlight Pictures in Los Angeles. She has worked on a number of feature films, including The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Another Earth, Never Let Me Go, Just Wright, Our Family Wedding, The Savages, The Namesake, The Clearing, In America and Antwone Fisher. In 2010, she joined the faculty of the University of Southern California in the Cinematic Arts Department where she teaches part-time to graduate film/MFA students.
Shana C. Waterman serves as Senior Vice President, Event Series & Multi-Platform Programming, a newly-created department at FBC set out to manage the network’s limited-run and digital programming initiatives. She commissions and develops long-form event series for Fox under the network’s joint initiative with FX and oversees the network’s multi-platform programming, including Animation Domination High-Def (ADHD), The Short-Com Comedy Hour (working title), WIGS and other digital-to-broadcast efforts. Before taking on her new role, Waterman was Senior Vice President of Current Programming where she oversaw several prime-time, scripted television series including House, Glee, Fringe, Raising Hope, The Mindy Project, American Dad and Family Guy. While at Fox, Waterman produced Fox’s inaugural Seizing Opportunities Forum, spurring dialogue among creative partners about shifting audience demographics. She also oversees the Fox Innovators Group, an internal program designed to foster entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among employees. For her efforts, Waterman was given a 2012 FOX Excellence in Innovation award. She joined the company as Director, Current Programming in 2006. Currently she serves on the Board of the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Seth Yanklewitz oversees casting for FOX’s New Girl, Raising Hope and The Following. After several years in the casting business, Yanklewitz and fellow casting director Juel Bestrop formed Juel Bestrop and Seth Yanklewitz Casting, and they cast some of the most successful feature comedies in recent history, including The Hangover, Blades of Glory, Four Christmases, Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakel and Project X. They also case the HBO comedy series Eastbound & Down. In early 2011, Yanklewitz and Bestrop began casting on the FOX comedy pilot New Girl, for which they recently received an Emmy Award nomination in the category of Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series.
