Claude Carone
Claude Carone
On Thursday November 7th, there will be a solo exhibition by Claude Carone in the Main Galleries. The Carriage House will be closed for the winter season. The work will be on display through December 1stwith a reception for the artist on Saturday November 9th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

“My paintings use an unlimited vocabulary of space that tries to articulate a border area linking the unconscious and the dream state. My paintings enact a psychological dialogue between these two states of being.
I use color – each of which has a specific weight -- to organize space and pull the elements of the paintings together. The multiple perspectives and organization of planes creates a sense of depth despite the fact that I fit a world of three dimensions into two.
I use color – each of which has a specific weight -- to organize space and pull the elements of the paintings together. The multiple perspectives and organization of planes creates a sense of depth despite the fact that I fit a world of three dimensions into two.
Depth and surface share a mission: to take the viewer to a new level of perceptive consciousness. Like music, my paintings show both major movements and the elaborations that accompany them. And just as silence serves to shape musical mass and duration, the implied space outside the paintings serves to help define the space within."

Mark Fell is an electronic musician based in Sheffield, UK, and one half of the experimental music duo SND. His work is created from variations on algorithmic and pattern-generating systems, producing non-repetitive structures that are equally influenced by house and techno music of the late 80s and early 90s. Recent albums such as Multistability and UL8 explore a number of timing and tuning systems rooted in non-Western music, with Fell asserting that “music is a technology for constructing an experience of time.” His set at Artists Space marks a rare institutional solo performance for New York City, departing from his recent recorded works and research undertaken during a residency at EMPAC, in Troy, NY.
Fell received an honorary mention in the digital music category at Prix ARS Electronica, and was shortlisted for the Quartz award for his contributions to research in digital music. Currently a 2013 Artist-in-Residence at Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center (EMPAC), Troy, New York, he has made presentations at various festivals and venues including Trouw, Amsterdam; Cave12, Geneva; Norberg Festival, Sweden; Yale Union, Portland; and Soup, Tokyo. In addition to his creative practice, Fell has been involved in a number of academic research projects ranging from computer science to musicology.

Border Body mixing cities & identities
Opening: November 10th, 2013
BorderBody - International Art Festival Photography, Video Art, Painting, Installation and Performing Art will be held in Almeria (Spain), at MECA Mediterráneo Centro ArtÃstico, during the 14th and 28th of November, 2013 (video screening only), and in WrocÅ‚aw (Poland) at Gallery MD_S (Galeria sztuki Współczesnej MD_S), from the 10th to the 30th of November 2013. Thirty-nine artists, from different countries, have been selected to be part of this project.
“BorderBody” is conceived as a diffused and nomadic exhibition in different places of the world. The festival is composed by two sections: “Mixing Cities”, which deals with modern urban changes and their influence on citizens, and “Mixing Identities” focused on the hybridization of social identities in contemporary time. Artworks’ selection is based on the main concept of fluidity, motion, changing networks and cities transformations. In contemporary society boundaries are getting more and more fleeting, and also the identity; what makes every person or place a recognizable entity, turns out fluid, multiple, making the cultural, religious, ethnic borders changeable too. This change, this mutation has allowed to cross the inside of the identities creating new possible crossings, new blends. There is no more limit between an identity and the other one but it is possible to walk, to cross a passage and to find oneself halfway through it, in a non-place, in a non-identity. People, backgrounds, societies, progress and all their inputs creates hybrid identities, modifying each other and being mixed in prospect to shape a better world.

BOUTIQUE ART FAIR MIAMI PROJECT SHOWCASES BEST IN CATEGORY CONTEMPORARY AND MODERN
New York, NY October 29, 2013 Miami Project will return to the destination location of the Wynwood Art District from December 3 to 8, 2013. It will again present a selection of historically important and cutting-edge contemporary work side by side, with a unique emphasis on the strength of individual exhibitors’ programs irrespective of their primary focus. Sixty galleries from across the United States will show at the fair. Galleries that represent prominent estates like those of Larry Rivers and Robert Mapplethorpe will exhibit next to those showing today’s most exciting young artists. Work from the historic avant-garde will inform and contextualize the best examples of contemporary practice. Galleries are curated into Miami Project based on a serious commitment to important living artists; extensive involvement with remarkable estates; and the strength of their program generally. The fair’s emphasis on presenting quality works in an intimate setting won over its 20,000 visitors last year, and the 2013 edition will again be boutique-scale, allowing for comfortable viewing in a relaxed atmosphere. Miami Project is housed in a deluxe, open-plan tent with soaring cathedral ceilings erected especially for the fair. It will feature roomy aisles and extravagant lounges for a pleasant visitor experience. Miami Project is presented with support from the Wall Street Journal, Luxe magazine, Perrier, the Midtown Doral, Porcelanosa, New Amsterdam Vodka, and Shellback Rum.
