With Penumbra and Shadow, Galería RGR presents Wang Yi in his first exhibition outside China, marking a key moment in the international expansion of his practice.
Bringing together works from his series Reflection of Shadow, the exhibition draws on Eastern philosophy and aesthetics, including Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s In Praise of Shadows and Daoist thought. Here, shadow is not secondary to light, but a condition through which material and perception take form.

Con Penumbra and Shadow (Penumbra y sombra), Galería RGR presenta a Wang Yi en su primera exposición fuera de China, marcando un momento clave en la expansión internacional de su práctica.
La exposición reúne obras de su serie Reflection of Shadow y se nutre de la filosofía y la estética orientales, incluyendo El elogio de la sombra de Jun’ichirō Tanizaki y el pensamiento taoísta. Aquí, la sombra no es secundaria a la luz, sino una condición a través de la cual la materia y la percepción toman forma.

The paintings are built through a slow process of layering translucent pigments, creating soft transitions and subtle shifts of color. Forms do not appear all at once; they emerge gradually, dissolving and recomposing within the surface.
Working between Eastern thought and Western painting traditions, Wang Yi develops a language in which geometry, material, and gesture remain in tension, allowing the image to take shape over time.

Las pinturas se construyen mediante un proceso lento de superposición de pigmentos translúcidos, generando transiciones suaves y sutiles variaciones de color. Las formas no aparecen de inmediato; emergen gradualmente, disolviéndose y recomponiéndose en la superficie.
Trabajando entre el pensamiento oriental y las tradiciones de la pintura occidental, Wang Yi desarrolla un lenguaje en el que la geometría, la materia y el gesto permanecen en tensión, permitiendo que la imagen tome forma con el tiempo.

Galería RGR returns to SP–Arte for its third participation, reaffirming its engagement with the Brazilian art scene.
This year, the presentation centers on Jesús Rafael Soto, bringing together works from key series developed throughout his career. These works trace his sustained investigation of vibration, structure, and the dissolution of form into space.
In dialogue with Soto, the booth includes seminal figures such as Carlos Cruz-Diez, Oswaldo Vigas and Julio Le Parc, alongside a selection of contemporary artists including Ding Yi, Wang Yi, Daiuske Ohba, Magali Lara, Jeppe Hein, Matthias Bitzer, Felipe Pantone, Hilma’s Ghost, Patrick Hamilton, Francisco Muñoz, Teruri Yamawaki and Pedro Zylbersztajn.
Across generations, the presentation reflects on abstraction as an evolving language shaped by movement, perception, and material investigation.

Este año, la presentación se centra en Jesús Rafael Soto, reuniendo obras de series destacadas desarrolladas a lo largo de su carrera. Estas piezas trazan su investigación sostenida sobre la vibración, la estructura y la disolución de la forma en el espacio.
