Dana Hemenway is an artist, curator, and educator based in San Francisco. She received her MFA from Mills College and her BA from University of California Santa Cruz. Her work is rooted in the excavation and elevation of utilitarian objects to make visible what has become habituated in our built environments. Hemenway uses these functional items as materials to form traditionally fiber-based crafts– lights and cords are woven through ceramics or the gallery wall, extension cords are transformed into macramé chains. Hemenway has had residencies at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art (Omaha,
NE), ACRE (Stueben, WI), SÍM (Reykjavik, Iceland), and The Wassaic Project (Upstate New York). Dana is the recipient of The San Francisco Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant and a Southern Exposure Alternative Exposure Grant. She just completed a public art commission for SFO’s Terminal 1, which opened in May of 2020. Dana has exhibited her artwork locally, nationally, and internationally. From 2015 – 2017, Dana served as a co-director of Royal Nonesuch Gallery, an artist-run project space in Oakland, CA.

LimeLight Agency Show Cases Gab Leonard.

Presents
Gabe Leonard
The Artist of Cinematic Tableaus
For several years Limelight has watched with amazement the art career of Gabe Leonard grow like none we’ve seen before. A mounting success, solely driven by a near cultish grass-roots following. Collectors who eagerly await word of the next painting, much like devoted fans anticipating the next release from Tarantino, Scorsese, Coppola, or Anderson. An odd way to describe a painter's fans. But for an artist whose paintings have been described as "your favorite movies that were never filmed”, it makes perfect sense.
With a refined brush matching the finesse of a cinematographer’s lens, Leonard's paintings have the uncommon ability to draw us deep into an immersive scene. In an instant, we are in the center of the action at a showdown on a dusty western street, a backroom mobster stand-off in a film noir, or a high-speed car chase through city streets. Always with the tension from arriving at the pinnacle moment where everything is at stake. Inviting us the viewers to find our own story, or even ourselves inside the action.
With these unequaled qualities, it’s not surprising that Leonard has drawn the attention of celebrity filmmakers as well. Most recently this has included Clint Eastwood. Who chose to offer his involvement and signature to one of Gabe Leonard's paintings of the legendary western star.

Once again, we at Limelight are humbled by the opportunity to represent an artist who has no comparable. And we eagerly look forward to sharing him with you for years to come.
