Harald Kröner and Uli Zwerenz regard their work as an open experiment within prescribed
conditions. They set out without a fixed plan, and the work comes about in a dialogue between
intuition, thinking about this intuition, and the material they use. Galerie Albrecht is pleased to

Fine Artist Louise Mellon Donates Painting for GPL to Honor "Senator" Glenn Atkinson
Wellington, FL - April 9, 2014- The GPL Polotini Party, a celebration held at the Mallet Grille at International Polo Club Palm Beach, officially kicked off The 5th Annual Gay Polo Week. A gathering of members of the GPL, sponsors, friends and family enjoyed an Argentine style asado, music and merrymaking sponsored by Patricia Quick.
Louise Mellon donated her original painting, "Airborne"
as a gift to be presented "Senator" Atkinson for
his role in helping McKenney found the GPL
GPL founder Chip McKenney led a short presentation to thank sponsors and hosts. At the end of his brief speech, McKenney invited Glenn Atkinson to the podium. He explained how Atkinson, fondly referred to as "The Senator," had introduced him to polo. He said the Senator and his wife and family had supported the founding of GPL and were always there to encourage him forward. Atkinson, once a 3-goal rated player, played well into his seventies. McKenney named the trophy for the feature game of the International Gay Polo Tournament the Senator's Cup in his honor.
McKenney presents the painting to the Atkinsons
McKenney presented a genuinely touched Atkinson with an original Louise Mellon polo painting called "Airborne."
"I am so grateful to Louise for the donation of the painting," said McKenney. "It was such a perfect way for me to honor the Senator. Without Glenn, there would be no GPL. Now in its fifth year, it is growing and growing."
Louise Mellon's work is immediately recognizable and primarily features horses, dogs and the equestrian lifestyle. Her brightly colored, vibrant pieces often have a witty or unexpected approach and are created with the intent to amuse.

Louise Mellon's work can be seen on the pages and covers of equestrian and art publications. Her work has been presented at numerous solo and juried shows on the east coast.

of artists who encouraged her creativity. She was raised in Middleburg, VA, where she rode and drove horses. Mellon's keen visual sense led her to a career as a commercial photographer and artist. Her work has been seen branding numerous products and covers of prize lists, racing programs and publications. She flew airplanes, helicopters and aerobatics, has resided in several parts of the country, and has traveled the world studying fine art. She has served on several boards, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and the Collector's Committee of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA. She moved to Aiken, SC, and custom-built a very special studio, where she works, welcomes visiting artists and hosts local events. Urban legends serve as modern day mythology. Often evolved from cultural traditions
and morality tales, these stories engage our collective fears and provoke strong emotional
responses. Such legends survive through storytelling that is often communicated using a
mix of words and imagery. The narrative can intensify the impact of the legend. The
more fantastic the tale, the more likely it will be passed down through generations. More
recently, the Internet has encouraged the rapid dissemination of these modern legends,
many of which can be traced back to the original folklore that inspired them.

The works of the thirty-seven artists included in this exhibition are based on specific
urban legends. Each work is accompanied by text explaining the artist's personal
connection to a chosen urban legend. The purpose of this exhibition is not to illustrate
urban legends, but to better understand them by considering them in the context of each
artist's interpretation.
