At the sculpture network Dialogue in Munich last Thursday, Lothar Schiffler shared his passion for art in the underground with us. Prior to this evening hardly anyone of those present had been aware of the huge diversity of art which is present in subway stations worldwide. Curious what we discovered in the Munich underground?
Our editor Elisabeth Pilhofer sets out this summer to search for places where sculpture and architecture meet. Her first stop: a sculpture that people in Munich call "Barfi" but surprises the observer at second glance.
This question is pursued by the art historian Willy Hafner. In his review of the first sculpture network Lab in Amsterdam, he states: "Absolute freedom is an illusion. There is no natural state of freedom, people everywhere always have to fight for freedom – in art, just like in real life."
Karol Broniatowski and the curator Anne Schwanz will guide us through the exhibition "Karol Broniatowski - IM MOMENT" on July 18th. Afterwards, there will be time for a drink together and networking in small groups. We look forward to seeing you!
