– Housing Works announced today that they will honor famed interior designer, Jamie Drake and activist Mary Fisher at their April 20th Groundbreaker Awards Dinner hosted by HGTV host Genevieve Gorder. Housing Works is a New York-based organization that provides supportive services and stable housing to the homeless and individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The non-profit works with advocacy offices across the country and abroad to fight for funding and legislation to ensure all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, prevention information and other life-sustaining services.

Host Genevieve Gorder’s unmistakable style and enthusiasm have made her one of America’s favorite interior designers, currently appearing on DesignIsh and Design Network. She can also be seen on HGTV’s “Genevieve’s Renovation,” “HGTV Star,” and “HGTV’s White House Christmas Special.” Gorder also has a collection at Capel Rugs, stationary, textile and baby & child lines, and designs for a diverse group of clients and companies from hotels and restaurants to private clients and cruise ships.

Jamie Drake will receive the ELLE DECOR “Heart of Design” Award this year for over a decade of philanthropic work with Housing Works. Drake has created vignettes multiple times for “Design on a Dime,” and he  currently serves as Chair of The Alpha Workshops where he’s been a board member for many years. ELLE DECOR editor-in-chief Michael Boodro will present their “Heart of Design” Award to Drake for his renowned work as an interior designer and his philanthropic work in support of the HIV/AIDS community.

Mary Fisher is being honored for her work and advocacy for HIV and AIDS patients. The actress, artist, author and political activist has used her voice to speak out about contracting HIV and her life living with the disease. She has written several books on the subject and has used her artwork and design collaborations to raise money funding the fight against AIDS. Fisher’s award will be presented by longtime friend, Rosie O’Donnell.

“Jamie and Mary exemplify what Housing Works stands for,” stated Design on a Dime Founding Chair, and Designer James Huniford. “We’re so proud to honor the work they have done and to have these amazing allies stand with us in our common mission to end AIDS and to provide housing and lifesaving services to those who are living with HIV/AIDS.”

Following the Groundbreaker Awards Dinner on the 20th, Housing Works will then host a three-day public event where guests can shop at the 12th annual DESIGN ON A DIME benefit and sale. Held at the Metropolitan Pavilion, the ticketed Opening Night Reception on April 21st attracts VIPs, designers and star-studded friends of Housing Works who will get a first-look at room vignettes and the first opportunity to shop each vignette. These rooms are designed by leading names in the industry and all merchandise (both designer and vintage items) is available at an extreme discount. The following two-days are open up to the wider general public with free admission where guests can experience the vignettes and purchase the remaining items. Proceeds from all sales will support Housing Works newest supportive Housing Project, The Hull Street Residence.
