All new hand-made art toys... Just in time for the Holiday Season!!

MF Gallery: 213 Bond St. Brooklyn, NY 11217

Cash & Carry Opening Party: Saturday November 12th, 7-10pm.

Every year, MF Gallery selects the best Art Toys for the annual "MF Toys Show". Because of their love of toys, curators Martina and Frank Russo have been putting together this show since 2003- long before Designer Toys were in the mainstream.

The MF Toys Show focuses on toys that are 100% hand made by artists, not painted vinyl or customized toys. These toys are made of materials such as cast resin, clay, fabric, animal bones, paper, wood and more.

Most of the toys are priced between $10 and $100, and are perfectly affordable holiday gifts.... Here's your opportunity to stick it to the big corporations by supporting a local shop and buying cool gifts for your family and friends!

All of the pieces in this show are one-of-a-kind originals, making them very sought after collectibles. Some of the artists are toy makers, others were asked to create a toy especially for this show. Artists include: Drew Maillard, Esther Vershoor, Moses Jaen, Bianca Panzram, Christine Benjamin, Max Reinhart, Jade Perez, Carisa Swenson, John Weisgerber, Sheri Debow, Scott Garrett, Jacqui Gallant, Peggy Wauters, Jaz Harold, Nicole Johnson, Nate Groppe, Junker Jane, Kamila Mlynarcz, Greg Maillard, Sigal Inbar, Heather Gargon, MF Toys and more!

The 2011 MF Toys Show will open on Saturday November 12th. Many of the artists will be attending the opening party from 7 to 10pm. The party will be a "Cash & Carry" event. Buyers will be able to take their toys home with them that very same night!

All of the toys are also available for viewing and purchasing online at: www.mfgallery.net/TS11/TS11.html

Victoria Palermo

Victoria Palermo

On Thursday November 10th, there will be a solo exhibition by Victoria Palermo in the Main Galleries. The Carriage House will be closed for the winter season. The work will be on display through December 4th with a reception for the artist on Saturday November 12th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Victoria Palermo, cant and wont, 2001, platinum cured silicone rubber, 7 .5 h. x 13 .5 x 11 inches

I am one of those people who occasionally succumbs to "Stendhal's Syndrome" -that is I swoon, literally experience vertigo, in front of a work of art... at times in front of a painting, especially a Rothko. In this work, I try to wedge myself into that abstract paint space, make it three-dimensional, walk around in it, and see through to the other side.

The layers of translucent colors here are recombinant, varying with the viewer's vantage point. That means you, the viewer, may participate in the work, mixing color and determining composition through your position outside the construction. I acknowledge the visual associations with the machined aesthetic and geometrical shapes of the Bauhaus and De Stilj, but form rejects function in my pieces. Their architectonic ambition is compromised by gravity--they are made of rubber, and closer inspection reveals their handmade origins. The works defy practicality--more like miniature Victorian follies in spirit perhaps--inviting a sense of fantasy to imagine dwelling inside.

         2011

"Victoria Palermo's diminutive architectural structures made of silicone rubber engage the senses and the intellect. Constructions that fuse a modernist appearance and ideology with an aesthetic of play found in their small size, bright colors, and illogical spaces, the work engenders a sense of pure pleasure and fun."

The tenth project for the SEVEN SCREENS, which is to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the public art platform, is dedicated to the human being. Herlinde Koelbl’s central theme is the importance of seeing. Everything begins with a look at the world and a look at one’s self: recognizing, perceiving, seeing, communicating. Her installation „You have taken away my heart, with one look you have taken it“ returns us to the origin of perception and the meaning of light, which provides the basis for the SEVEN  SCREENS. The title of her installation was inspired by Solomon's Song of Songs.
Herlinde Koelbl (*1939 in Lindau) is one of Germany's most prominent photographers and documentary filmmakers. She did not begin her career in photography until she was thirty-seven, and has worked for numerous newspapers and magazines, including Stern, Die Zeit, and the New York Times. Koelbl has presented her work in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, for example in the United States, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and China. Most recently, she had extensive solo exhibitions at the Villa Stuck in Munich (2008), the Kunsthal Rotterdam, the Martin-Gropius Bau in Berlin (2009), the Stadtmuseum Graz (2010), and the Stadtmuseum in Munich (2011). She has received numerous awards, including the Leica Medal of Excellence (1987), the Epica Award and Kodak Pro Prize (1992), the Golden Camera (2000), Dr. Erich Salomon Prize 2001, the Federal Cross of Merit (2009), and the Lindau Cultural Award (2010).

The Morrison Hotel Gallery Presents - Neal Preston

The Morrison Hotel Gallery
Presents
NEAL PRESTON

October 27, 2011, New York, NY - The Morrison Hotel Gallery in Soho is excited to present an exhibition of photography from the prolific Neal Preston. The exhibit will be open to the public beginning Friday, November 11th and Neal will be appearing at the gallery on Saturday, November 12th from 1 to 5 PM, which will be open to the public.

This notable exhibition will feature classic photographs and also never-before-seen images from 40-year-old negatives that may not have otherwise been useable, but were salvaged using modern-day technology. Some of the photos even Neal himself had not yet seen - including The Doors, Janis Joplin and the MC5.

With a career that began in high school and continues to this day, Neal Preston's photographs have appeared in every conceivable media outlet - on the covers and pages of world-class magazines (People - as a major contributing photographer from 1979-2007, Time, Rolling Stone), in newspapers, books on TV, and  in countless record, CD and DVD covers. Through his longtime friendship with acclaimed director Cameron Crowe, Neal has provided photography and inspiration for such films as "Almost Famous", "Vanilla Sky" and the soon-to-be-released "We Bought A Zoo." His archive, a body of work spanning almost 4 decades, is regarded as one of the music industry's most extensive and significant photo collections.

Preston has toured the world with the who's-who of rock royalty - Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, Heart, Billy Joel and more.

Also a gifted sports photographer, Neal has covered six Olympic Games, from the 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia to the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy.  He has photographed major sporting events as varied as the World Series, NBA and NFL playoff games, World Cup soccer matches, and the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Preston has been honored with a permanent exhibit at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, and his images have also been on display at the Smithsonian, Yankee Stadium, Wembley Stadium, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio.
Of his second-ever New York showing at The Morrison Hotel Gallery, Preston says, "For this show, I'm busting out some of the 'greatest hits' along with some previously unseen gems that I've mined from my archives - most of them shot when I was still in high school. I want people to feel like they've uncovered a kind of cool rock-and-roll time capsule, which is exactly how I felt when I was bringing some of these photos back to life."

Having just celebrated it's 10th Anniversary, The Morrison Hotel Gallery was founded in 2001 by Peter Blachley, a former record company executive, producer Rich Horowitz, a former independent record store owner, and Henry Diltz, a legendary music photographer. The gallery has since grown to become a major brand in fine art music photography and is respected amongst peers and artists alike.
