SATELLITE 2023 will be held at the HALLOWEEN MEGASTORE, just two blocks from Art Basel at 700 Lincoln Road. This makes SATELLITE the closest art fair to the convention center. Highlights being: a meat sweats meat installation, a romanesque fiber colosseum, multiple immersive virtual reality projects, live music stages, vagina plates, Shibari rope art, durational performative artworks alongside some of the most dynamic fine art in America. We are also proud to present a free workshop program for artists and patrons to participate in. SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS

"FOR THE REST OF US, IT'S THE COLOSSEUM" by HANSKI: In a chance encounter with an old man in the forest, Hanski was gifted, after much rambling, a profound insight: "The elite may have their nuclear submarines, but for the rest of us, it's the Colosseum." This revelation, reflecting on the spectacle of human conflict, has given rise to her latest work. A giant installation where the ancient and modern collide. Encased in a cube, its fabric skin, painting in stark black and white, evoke the Colosseum's enduring legacy. Inside, monochromatic phantoms line the walls, cheering for death, symbolizing human bloodlust, while textile sculptures populate the floor, representing figures from gladiators to saints, all frozen in silent dialogue. The new work is a call to recognize the Colosseum in our midst, challenging the spectator to confront the relentless spectacle of human division. As Hanski invites you to step into this space, prepare to engage with the echoes of history and the shadows of our collective narrative.

KIDS + GUNS by Melissa Haims: An interactive large scale weaving project that involves the names and clothing corresponding to children (ages 0-17) who have been killed by guns in America during this year. Participants will be invited to help weave fabric into the structure onsite.

“MEAT SWEATS” by Jen Catron and Paul Outlaw: Meat Sweats is an excessive display of raw, decadent meat: a feast for the eyes. The ceramic meats mimic a common display found in butcher shops but inhabit a display case inside a comedy club instead. Throughout the show, the meats—chicken, sausage, hamburger, and more—appear to be continuously sweating, as if being overheated to death. The result is both grotesque and humorous.

RAVERIOT by Flatsitter (2023, TBILISI). A virtual reality film is a love letter to the warrior queens and queers of Tbilisi, Sakartvelo. ALL FASCISTS EAT SHIT AND DIE.

PERFORMVU Lounge: PerformVu presents a curated collection of powerful performance and video art, rarely showcased on mainstream platforms. Join us at the PerformVu lounge for an intimate art experience.

Lena Marquis: The Vagina Plate “V-PLATE” AKA the "Usher, Vagina". Here the artist will create a conceptual store based around this infamous artwork. This installation will function as a store through the action of selling a representation of the commodified body of the artist, in the form of the sculpted art object V-plate. Marquise objectifies the vulva by rendering it on a plate, in the same way a vagina might be used as a commodity in SW. Simultaneously glorifying and commodifying the vulva.

“Parallel Play” by Nate Hester: Expect ceramic ware, metalworks and textiles accompany a schedule of events (drum circles, free tattooing, cookie baking, meditation labyrinths, hopscotch tournaments) to invite you into this temporary fantasy land where wonder and neon lights are in charge.

The Hippy Sheik Martian Circus Stage: Live musical engagements with Martian Circus, Good Time Mystery Vision and Internet Friends.

"STILE TALE: Coincidentia Oppositorum" by Denise Treizman and Julia Zurilla
In a world that often pushes us towards polarization and dichotomy, our collaborative project bets on paradox as a source of inspiration. "Stile Tale: Coincidentia Oppositorum" is a testimony of what can arise when two apparently distant artistic visions intertwine in search of harmony. The power of it resides at the point of convergence, where extremes touch and opposites reconcile. It is in this harmonious balance that we find the essence of the work. The reconciliation of paradoxes is not achieved by seeking a warm midpoint, but by maintaining the tension between the extremes to create something irresistible, something that awakens the soul and provokes reflection.
"Stile Tale: Coincidentia Oppositorum" is a reminder that beauty emerges from conflict, that life flourishes in the space between extremes, and that true wealth resides in the harmony born of tension.

"Aural Pause" by Mary Sky Artist Residency offers an interlude to genuinely listen. There's a thought — not radical, but often forgotten — that our Earth, with its myriad of mysteries, hums its own tune. Subtle, hushed, yet undeniably present.

Break Point durational performance by Rachel Romanowski. The largest painting in Miami this December will never be seen and cut into pieces at Satellite Art Fair. A durational piece diving into the sum of the parts while dissecting the whole.

WORKSHOPS

12.05 | Find Your Flower - Cyanotype Print/Continuous Line Drawing | 3:00pm – 6:00pm
In this workshop we will use Cyanotype paper to print flowers or other organic material provided. Following the printing process we will practice continuous line drawing around the print with graphite/colored pencil/watercolor pencil. We will then color our creations with watercolor paint!
This workshop is intended for participants to loosen control in the creative experience and distort the obvious design of the organic reference material provided!

12.06 | Colored Pencil Anime Self Portraits | 3:00pm – 6:00pm
In this workshop the instructor will be demonstrating tips and tricks to elevate your colored pencil skills with her tweaked version of anime and character design!

We will work with pocket mirrors, graphite pencils, colored pencils, and micron pens to reimagine ourselves as an anime character.

12.07 | Found Object Sculture/Observational Drawing | 3:00pm – 6:00pm
In this workshop participants are invited to select an item blindly or actively choose from recycled materials gathered during beach cleanups held throughout the week! Our instructor will detail design techniques alongside sculptural and drawing techniques necessary to develop your unique vision.

12.08 | Self Reflection: An Exploration of self through abstracted expressive self-portraiture | 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Participants will be guided through an exercise in expressing their inner and outer being without relying on a literal representation. Instead, the workshop will use texture/stroke, shape, color, and more to communicate one’s appearance, mood, sensibility, and the often-unseen self. Participants will use acrylic paints on mirrored surfaces (the mirrored surface adds both dimension and meaning to this exploration) to produce a reflection of themselves—general instruction and guidance as to proportion, form, and color theory will be given, but ultimately, each portraits’ level of abstraction will be entirely dependent onthe individual’s process and creative choices.

12.09 | Find Your Flower- Observational Painting | 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Participants are invited to select an organic reference to use for an observational acrylic still life painting!
