Behind-the-scenes with Syrus Marcus Ware

As a continuation from his 2019 Antarctica commission, Syrus Marcus Ware presents MBL: Freedom in 2022 as the next chapter of his expansive, multimedia, multi-year project that predicts a near-future wherein Antarctica has become the only habitable place on the planet. Reflecting on climate change, white supremacy, abolition, and disability justice, the work will be presented as an interactive film experience, situating participants on the Mary Bird Land campsite.

Leading City-Builders Supporting TBA

We are excited to announce a new partnership with Kilmer, Mattamy & Tricon, three visionary city-builders who are putting art at the centre of their work building new communities.

Access to the arts is essential to creating vibrant, livable, inclusive communities where everyone can thrive, and Kilmer, Mattamy & Tricon are committed to ensuring that the public can enjoy the work of Canadian and International world-class artists, free of charge. Their work to connect communities to the arts continues to bring people together, and help make our neighbourhoods more open, trusting, and prosperous, while fostering a sense that everyone belongs.

Kilmer, Mattamy & Tricon has a long-standing commitment to Toronto’s arts and culture hubs to inspire, challenge and connect us. That’s why we are thrilled to support the Toronto Biennial of Art in achieving their vision of making contemporary art available to everyone. The work of the Toronto Biennial of Art has never been more important and their work will play a transformative role in revitalizing the city we love as we recover from COVID lockdowns.
– Ken Tanenbaum, Vice-Chairman, Kilmer Group

The support provided by Kilmer, Mattamy & Tricon to the Biennial will be instrumental in ensuring that Torontonians and visitors can access free and inclusive public programs and exhibitions throughout the entire 10 weeks of the 2022 Biennial.
