Castor Gallery!!!This is fun, I am a fan of drawing as a skill: Tamara Santibañez creates a bedroom using ballpoint pen | SPRING/BREAK Art Show

Thinking About Everything, But Then Again, I Was Thinking About Nothing
Tamara Santibañez

Justin De Demko, curator and director of Castor Gallery, is proud to present Thinking About Everything, But Then Again, I Was Thinking About Nothing, a mixed-media installation by Tamara Santibañez. Located in Room #2203 , SPRING/BREAK Art Show, 4 Times Square (Entrance on 43rd Street) the installation will be on view February 28 (Preview Day) through March 6, 11am-6pm.
Santibañez is widely known for her innovative combination of Chicano imagery with fetish iconography, practicing her skills on human canvas by day, working alongside Scott Campbell at his legendary Saved Tattoo in Brooklyn.
In Thinking About Everything, Santibañez recreates a semi-autobiographical bedroom based on memory using ballpoint pen on paper, fabric and ceramics, to produce replicas of band posters, records, tapes, t-shirts, and punk accessories such as studded belts and bracelets. Santibañez aims to create a type of archaeological site where viewers are invited to investigate and mine for clues about the resident’s identity.

@ the Hole RY DAVID BRADLEY Room with a View February 18 - March 26, 2017 OPENING: Saturday, February 18th from 6-9PM

I Like Innovation, but this is just medium covering as a color field theory in an image statement.
Go Figure.
Colors are appealing.

RY DAVID BRADLEY
Room with a View

February 18 - March 26, 2017

OPENING: Saturday, February 18th from 6-9PM

The Hole is proud to announce our first solo exhibition by Australian-born new media artist Ry David Bradley. After presenting his works in group exhibitions and art fairs in 2016, the gallery will devote our large rear space to a full show of painting and installation that looks at looking out the window in the digital age.

Works on synthetic suede are hung in large window-pane shapes on the walls opening up our big white box to views of the outside world. Mimicking loading images in new browser windows, the paintings look like they are still rendering, about to snap into focus for a view of the tantalizing outdoors. Perpetually blurred, super saturated dye-transfer prints mimic screenic color, glow and intensity while being tactile, soft and fuzzy physical objects. Many works look like the sky or trees, bodies in motion, people and plants, suggestively out of focus.

Like E.M. Forster's novel the exhibition juxtaposes the conservative or traditional position of the "room" (gallery) with the future-gazing open-minded window "view", so to speak; a contrast found in the open aspect of technology and connection paired with the prosaic isolation that devices enforce. As with his previous exhibitions, Bradley meditates on the new ecosystem of digital imaging and its effect on painting, isolation and intimacy, and of course the potential and shortcomings of new media not just for painting but for people. How much of a view, how much promise and freedom and openness do these digital windows provide, and how does that compare to the "window" offered in classical oil paintings? Or even how do the digital windows of surveillance, live streaming, social media alter the view that we can see out of them?

Ry David Bradley (b.1979, Melbourne) lives and works in London, New York City and Melbourne. Graduating in 2013 with an MFA from Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, Bradley has exhibited internationally including LA, London, New York, Berlin, Brussels, Milan, Cologne, Sydney and Melbourne. Recent solo exhibitions include "Post Truth II" at Galerie Derouillon, Paris; "Unvalley Valley" at Evelyn Yard, London; "Not To Be Digitized" at Tristian Koenig, Sydney and "Where Do You Want to Go Today" at Brand New Gallery, Milan. His work debuted in the USA with Bill Brady Gallery in Kansas City in 2015 with "Access All Areas." His work has recently been added to the permanent collection of the Victoria Museum in Melbourne.

Michelle Dorrance with Nicholas Van Young
Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:30pm, 8pm and 9:30pm

"One of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today" - The New Yorker

On Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 6:30pm, 8pm and 9:30pm, Works & Process presents the first Works & Process Rotunda Project, a new initiative, commissioning site-specific residencies and performances for the iconic Guggenheim rotunda. The Works & Process Rotunda Project: Michelle Dorrance with Nicholas Van Young will feature MacArthur Fellow Michelle Dorrance, one of the most sought-after tap dancers of her generation, working in collaboration with Bessie Award winner Nicholas Van Young. Culminating a three-week rotunda residency, Dorrance and Van Young lead a large cast of dancers and musicians from her company, Dorrance Dance, using dance and percussion to create a performative soundscape incorporating the rotunda as a musical instrument.

This 30-minute performance will be viewed from the ramps and requires audience members to stand for the duration of the program.

Leadership support for Works & Process Rotunda Projects provided by Mertz-Gilmore Foundation and Caroline M. Sharp.

Michelle Dorrance Rotunda Project is underwritten by Stuart H. Coleman and Meryl Rosofsky.

Michelle's choreography has been featured on stages throughout the world as well as in a high-fashion short film for Tabitha Simmons' 2011 Fall line. Michelle embodies a true passion for teaching and strives to share this passion wherever she goes. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from NYU, played bass for Darwin Deez, teaches as guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center, is a Capezio Athlete and has been featured on the covers of Dance Magazine and Dance Teacher Magazine. Michelle wishes to credit the master hoofers from whom she studied with in her youth for constant inspiration and influence.

Nicholas Van Young is a dancer, musician and choreographer, and a 2015 Bessie Award recipient. He previously was a member of the off-Broadway sensation STOMP, where he performed the lead role, acted as rehearsal director, and spent 10 years with the show. Nicholas began his professional career at the age of 16 with Tapestry Dance Company of Austin, TX. Since moving to New York, Nicholas has performed with multiple tap companies and shows and is thrilled to have found a home with Michelle Dorrance's Dorrance Dance. Nicholas co-created and developed ETM: Double Down, a collaborative effort with Michelle Dorrance.
