Wait Watchers: a series of photographs by Haley Morris Cafiero

FilmsOnArtists is proud to present a short documentary (runtime: 6 mins) on performance photographer Haley Morris-Cafiero, winner of FOA's International Juried Competition 2010.  

Morris-Cafiero was selected out of field of several hundred global artists and out of a curated show of 40 artists to win a solo show and a documentary created by FilmOnArtists. 

Wait Watchers is a series of photographs where Morris-Cafiero reverses the gaze of strangers reacting to her performing mundane tasks in public by documenting their reactions to her with her camera.  By placing her camera out in public and aiming the camera at her, Morris-Cafiero does things that everyone does in public: talk on the phone, eat a cup of gelato, wait for a cab. But while doing these acts, Morris-Cafiero records the unsolicited reaction of people who walk by and react by sneering, laughing and gawking.

Haley Morris-Cafiero is a photographer based in Memphis. She uses film and digital rangefinders to capture her images. The unaltered images are printed using digital processes. Haley received her MFA in Art from the University of Arizona and her BFA in Ceramics and BA in Photography from University of North Florida. She is currently an Associate Professor and Head of the Photography Department at Memphis College of Art.

JAMIE ELLIN FORBES/ © Fine ArtMagazine Fall 2011... Danny Aiello, one of the greatest and most recognized actors of our era, a movie star in anybody’s book, has a love of singing which he has been able to share with the world over the past few years via the release of a series of compact discs, featuring impeccable musicianship and production to showcase his thoroughly entertaining voice. As you can imagine, Aiello’s tastes are old school and his renditions of such chestnuts as “Beyond the Sea” and “All of Me” among many others, wowed the crowd at the Patchogue Theater Saturday night, October 1. He delivered fresh, energetic performances of standards from his recordings but the show stopper was a duet of “Besame Mucho” with producer/rapper Hasan from Danny’s most recent release, “Bridges”, a collaboration of standards with hip hop, which could easily be a fit for a Grammy performance. Why not for this Academy Award winning actor? It was a great pleasure to watch Danny deliver and his love of the music is ineffable. All of Aiello’s considerable drive, charisma, and power was enjoyed by the audience, in the terrifically well orchestrated and staged concert. CHARLESTON, SC (October 2011)- M Gallery of Fine Art SE is pleased to present “Master Works Duo Exhibition” featuring living masters Albert Handell and Clayton J. Beck, III.  The show will be composed of works from both artists in pastel and oil and will hang from November 4^th – November 30^th,. The opening reception will be held on Friday, November 4th, in tandem with the First Friday Art Walk. We will broadcast the event live on our website  www.mgalleryoffineart.com from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Albert Handell enrolled in the Art Students League of New York City to study drawing and anatomy with the late Louis Priscilla and the late Robert Ward Johnson. He also studied painting for two years with Frank Mason. From 1961 to 1965, Handell lived and traveled in Europe. In Paris, he painted independently in his own studio, working from the model at L’Ecole de la Grande Chaumiere and at the Louvre, copying the old masters. A 1980 trip to Santa Fe was life changing, sparking a love affair with the Southwestern landscape. He is a Master Signature Member of Oil Painters of America. He is one of only three living artists to be voted into the Pastel Society of America’s Hall of Fame. Handell currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and teaches nationally and internationally.


Born in Illinois, Clayton J. Beck, III studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, as well at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts with Richard Schmid.  His career began while attending the American Academy, exhibiting at Jody Kirberger’s Talisman Gallery. He has received awards of excellence and distinction from the Midwest Pastel Society, the Pastel Society of America, the Municipal Art League of Chicago, the Palette & Chisel and the Oil Painters of America.  He then began teaching in Chicago after graduation.
