October 20–25, 2026

Marking its debut at Design Miami.Paris, Galerie Negropontes presents from October 20 to 25, 2026 HALGA, a monumental installation by Italian artist Gianluca Pacchioni, as part of the Design at Large programme. Three monumental oxidised-iron sculptures — Halga II, Halga IV, and Halga VI — occupy the courtyard garden of the historic mansion, creating a landscape of ascending forms. Presented together for the first time in this configuration, the three works form a cohesive ensemble, establishing a dialogue between sculpture, historic architecture, and the surrounding greenery.

Gianluca Pacchioni, Halga II, 2013, oxidised iron, height: 3 m each, total installation area: 18 m².

Gianluca Pacchioni: Matter as Language

Born in Milan in 1966, Gianluca Pacchioni developed a passion for metal in the 1990s while immersed in the Parisian art scene. Self-taught, he began by experimenting with salvaged materials and ironwork offcuts before developing a rigorous metalworking practice.

Upon returning to Italy, he deepened his expertise alongside master craftsmen and began forging steel himself in his studio. His work gradually expanded to include bronze, brass, and aluminium, giving rise to sculptures and limited-edition furniture pieces in which the transformation of raw material became a true visual language.

At the heart of his practice lies the phenomena of transformation: the action of fire, patinas, molten metals, and the effects of light. His works reveal the tension between the raw power of their materials and the delicacy of the forms that emerge from them. Light plays an essential role, extending these volumes into space and revealing shifting, ethereal silhouettes.

Gianluca Pacchioni, Halga IV and Halga VI, 2014, oxidised iron, height: 3 m each, total installation area: 18 m².

HALGA: A Vertical Landscape

Conceived as a sculptural installation, HALGA brings together three works, each standing three metres tall, to form a unique spatial composition.

The title Halga, a poetic variation on the word alga (“seaweed”), evokes the aquatic world - a reference made clear through the sculptures’ fluid lines and organic branching forms. Like marine plants swayed by ocean currents, the works seem to reach upwards while conveying a sense of perpetual movement.

The installation is structured around a dual tension that runs throughout the series: a persistent, almost architectural verticality on the one hand, and an expansive force that opens the forms without ever enclosing them on the other. Pacchioni describes this dynamic as the very core of the project: an ascending energy constantly driven by a sense of liberation.

These three sculptures also resonate with the gallery’s broader programme this year, particularly in their exploration of verticality and transcendence - themes central to Brancusi’s work. Their upward momentum recalls the Endless Column, an iconic symbol of elevation and the pushing past of material limits. Pacchioni offers an organic, contemporary interpretation of this idea, in which twisting forms and the play of light extend a deeper reflection on the relationship between sculpture, space, and perception.

Installed outdoors, the work transforms with changing light conditions and the movement of visitors. The configuration of the three sculptures opens up a multiplicity of viewpoints and pathways, allowing the forms to continuously reconfigure themselves. More than a collection of works, HALGA offers an immersive experience of landscape in which material, light, and space merge into a single composition.

The Foundacion for Mexican Art and Culture, and Phillips are accepting submissions in November 2026. This is an exceptional opportunity to apply for the Kahlo Art Prize for  emerging Mexican artists. Information for applications, and other information are below. This will be great art fun to follow,

FUNDACIÓN KAHLO

IN COLLABORATION WITH PHILLIPS AUCTION HOUSE

ANNOUNCES THE LAUNCH OF THE INAUGURAL

KAHLO ART PRIZE

CELEBRATING EMERGING MEXICAN ARTISTS

FIRST RECIPIENT OF THE $50,000 BIENNIAL AWARD

WILL BE NAMED ON JULY 6, 2027

INTERNATIONAL SUBMISSION PROCESS BEGINS IN NOVEMBER 2026

On the occasion of Frida Kahlo’s birthday, Fundación Kahlo officially announced today the inaugural Kahlo Art Prize, an international biennial award created to celebrate and elevate the work of emerging contemporary Mexican artists. The inaugural prize will include a $50,000 USD financial stipend, as well as opportunities for the recipient’s work to be exhibited in New York as well as at Museo Casa Kahlo, the recently opened museum in Coyoacán, Mexico City, dedicated to the family life and legacy of Frida Kahlo. Phillips Auction House is proud to be a sponsor.

The first recipient of the Kahlo Art Prize will be named on July 6, 2027, in Coyoacan on the site of Museo Casa Kahlo.

The Art Prize jury will be led by Magalí Arriola, the former director of Museo Tamayo in Mexico City.  For more than 30 years Ms. Arriola’s projects have navigated the intersection of art and politics.

Submissions for the prize will be open beginning in November of this year. The Kahlo Art Prize will celebrate an eligible artist who is a Mexican national, with the inaugural prize focused on two-dimensional artwork only. More details will be announced shortly, with full submission and entry rules available (beginning in November) at fundacionkahlo.org/kahloartprize.

“Through the process of opening the museo and welcoming the globe into Frida’s world, there has been one constant refrain: Más amor, más família, más Mexico – more love, more family, more Mexico,” said Mara Romeo Kahlo, Frida’s closest living relative and heir. “As a lifelong teacher, Frida was devoted to the idea of elevating and celebrating other artists, and that is at the heart of the Kahlo Art Prize.”

At an event at the Museo celebrating Frida’s birthday, Rick Miramontez, Chairman of Fundación Kahlo, stated, "Frida Kahlo believed that art came from living one's truth with courage and authenticity. This prize honors that spirit by investing not only in artistic excellence, but in the next generation of Mexican voices whose work will shape our culture for decades to come. Through the Kahlo Art Prize, Fundación Kahlo celebrates Frida's enduring legacy by helping to encourage and ensure that the future of Mexican art is as bold, original, and fearless as she was.”

Miety Heiden, Chairman, Private Sales, Phillips, said, "Few artists have had the lasting impact of Frida Kahlo. Generations after her lifetime, her work continues to shape cultural conversations and inspire new artistic voices. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with Fundación Kahlo on the Kahlo Art Prize and to help create a platform for emerging Mexican artists. Supporting artists at pivotal moments in their careers is central to what we do, and this initiative reflects our continued commitment."

Since opening in fall 2025, Museo Casa Kahlo has been spotlit as one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, Time Out’s 26 Best Things to Do in the World in 2026, and on J.P. Morgan’s NextList 2026, highlighting cutting-edge experiences at the forefront of arts and culture.

Casa Roja, as the museum is affectionately called, was a private home owned by the Kahlo family for generations before its life as a museum. With a visual identity developed by Pentagram and restoration design by Mexico-based architect Mariana Doet Zepeda Orozco and Rockwell Group’s David Rockwell, the museo provides a roster of events supporting and amplifying local Mexican culture.  Adán García Farjado serves as the museum’s Director.

Museo Casa Kahlo is supported in part by Fundación Kahlo, the New York City-based nonprofit organization created with the Kahlo family to support the arts and Mexican culture in the spirit of Frida herself.

Fundación Kahlo was established by the Kahlo family to preserve Frida Kahlo’s legacy, with particular focus on Mexican arts, culture, community enrichment, and philanthropy. The family values creativity, authenticity, resilience, inclusivity, community, and global awareness. Since its creation in May 2025, the Fundación has worked to support those values by actively engaging with supporters of the arts in Mexico, the United States, and around the world in its philanthropic endeavors.  The Fundación’s Board of Directors includes Ms. Romeo Kahlo (President), David Rockwell and Thomas Schumacher.

Ileen Gallagher is its Creative Director, and Mara De Anda is Program Director.  The Advisory Board includes Frida Hentschel Romeo, founder of Corazon Kahlo; Hedda Moye Leonardi, Global Advisor; and Deborah Sass, Endowment Executive.

The New York Historical Exhibition of Bill Cunningham’s Newly Acquired Archive to Open in Winter 2027

“We All Dress for Bill” to be Guest Curated by Vogue’s Raul Martinez, with Advisory Support from Alex Gonzalez and Anna Wintour

The New York Historical, New York’s first museum, has today announced “We All Dress for Bill”—the new exhibition celebrating famed photographer Bill Cunningham’s decades-long career—will open in the winter of 2027. On view in the Klingenstein Family Gallery, the signature exhibition space in The Historical’s new Tang Wing for American Democracy, the exhibition will feature Cunningham’s photographs capturing street fashion, fashion shows, and parties across New York City. Raul Martinez, Global Creative Director of Vogue, will guest curate, and Anna Wintour, Condé Nast's Chief Content Officer, will support the exhibition in an advisory capacity, along with creative director Alex Gonzalez. The title of the exhibition, “We All Dress for Bill,” is inspired by Ms. Wintour’s famous comment.

Cunningham was a frequent photographer and visitor at The Historical, and the Museum hosted his 85th birthday party accompanying an exhibition of his photography—after which he left on his bicycle to photograph that evening’s events around town. The Historical acquired his extensive archive in 2025.

“While modestly traveling New York by day and night on his bicycle, Bill Cunningham’s contributions were legendary,” says Dr. Louise Mirrer, President and CEO of The New York Historical. “He documented the fashion moments of our times, he shined a light on the celebrations of New York’s cultural institutions, and along the way he built an archive of stunning photographs. And there’s no more important and appropriate partner for this exhibition than Raul and Anna. We’re also grateful to New York Historical Trustee Sally Klingenstein Martell for her generous support of the archive.”

“Photography, fashion, and New York are my greatest passions, so the opportunity to curate this one-of-a-kind collection is a great gift,” said Mr. Martinez. “During our first conversations about the exhibition, my colleague Anna Wintour shared, ‘Well, we always used to say ‘we all dress for Bill,’ so that’s the most natural title for the exhibition.’ I heartily agree.” Martinez has been the global creative director of Vogue since 2024, and his work with photography was honored with a National Magazine Award.

The exhibition will be co-curated by Martinez and The New York Historical’s Valerie Paley, Senior Vice President and Sue Ann Weinberg Director of the Patricia D. Klingenstein Library.

Known for riding around the streets of New York City on his bicycle wearing his iconic blue French worker’s jacket, Bill Cunningham was one of the most influential style authorities and trend-spotters of the 20th century. Often covering multiple fashion shows and high-profile gatherings in the course of one day, Cunningham was equally renowned for his work capturing fashionable New Yorkers in his candid street photography.

Born in 1929 and raised in Boston, Cunningham moved to New York in 1948, initially working in advertising before turning his attention to millinery and making hats under the name “William J.” After serving in the US Army, he returned to New York and began a career in journalism, writing for the Chicago Tribune and Women’s Wear Daily, while also taking photographs of fashion on the streets of New York. The New York Times first published a group of his impromptu pictures in December 1978, which soon became a regular series and continued for the rest of his career. Cunningham passed away in 2016.

The Sally Klingenstein Martell "Bill Cunningham Archive" at The New York Historical consists of approximately 600 linear feet of items, the majority of which are photographs spanning from the late 1960s to the 2010s. The subjects range from on-the-street fashion, parties, weddings, benefits, and galas, including three decades of the Met Gala. Additionally, the archive documents his millinery efforts, through receipts, textile swatches, scrapbooks, and news clips and includes notebooks from his visits to Paris in the 1960s.

The New York Historical’s collection includes the bicycle that Cunningham rode; his camera; his signature blue jacket; and scrapbooks from his millinery line. The collection also includes selections from Facades, Cunninghan’s eight-year photographic project documenting New York City’s architectural and fashion history, featuring portraits mainly of fellow photographer Editta Sherman, dressed in period costume and posed in front of buildings from the same era. In 2014, The New York Historical hosted an exhibition showcasing photographs from Facades.
