"WAR TO WAR" by Iraqi sculptor Ahmed Al- Bahrani.

City of Miami Mayor Tomas P. Regalado will formally inaugurate onDecember 3rd at 3:00PM the exhibition "WAR TO WAR" by Iraqi sculptor Ahmed Al- Bahrani.

The show presented by Gary Nader Art Centre will be on display at the premises of the Bayfront Park, 301 N. Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL from December 3, 2013 through January 3, 2014. Ahmed Al- Bahrani's (Babylon, Iraq b. 1965) occupies a distinguished position among the work of Arab contemporary sculptors. The figurative oeuvre that will be presented in this show has an overpowering aesthetical discourse with a humanistic output of universal implication; this new series stands against the war and gun violence, making a breakthrough in contemporary art. His realistic images are portraits of political, religious and pop personalities, among others, carrying all type of armaments. Al- Bahrani's with his repertoire of large-scale sculptures creates a state of affairs in receptors contrary to what they're comfortable with, by interacting conventional and unconventional symbols. Unfurling from the architecture, emerging out of corners and walls, the artist's wild conflagrations of ghost-pale flowers, frames, branches and vines look as though they could have sprouted from an enchanted seed.  From their mysterious materials to their exponentially multyiplyig ornament - bone-white bouquets, crowding around a frame or climbing along the wall - Trask's objects emit an unmistakable air of magic. Trask began her career as a maker of small objects: her carved-bone works could be worn as jewelry. In the last decade her work has expanded in size and scope; a single sculpture can take Trask eight months to construct, and the artist’s processes are as varied and laden with meaning as the materials she employs: the manipulation of bone, woodcarving and gilding, still-life and furniture making. Trask practices a singular kind of alchemy: She could tell you the number of days peroxide-cured deer antler must dry in the sun at her Hudson Valley home, or the solution of vinegar in which one might soak a python’s rib in order to make it pliable enough to form the pinprick of a chrysanthemum petal. But these crafts are, for Trask, secondary to her completed works’ true achievement: a sense of wonder at the vast proliferation of the natural world. According to Trask, “That’s what I’m trying to claim when I go into the studio. I want to make something that I believe could be real, something that could have happened on its own.”   Lisa Sette Gallery maintains a very active exhibition schedule, mounting approximately 10 exhibitions a year ranging in theme and genre.  For nearly 30 years, the gallery has been committed to showcasing a range of contemporary photography, sculpture, painting, installation and performance art.  #fineartmagazine

Photo: Claudia Albuquerque Nall & Latin American Influences Nall has lived and worked in many countries, being first impressed as a child when visiting Mexico and later in the 1980's living in the jungle town of Yelapa, near friend and artist Anton Haardt. He opened his first professional artist atelier with the Cuban painter Horacio Tabares in Birmingham, Alabama. The sexually charged works of this Cuban artist opened doors into Nall's art, before working with Salvador Dali. Technically, he was impregnated with the handicraft beadwork of the Huichole Indians, and the collage and painted carvings of the Surrealist school of Huahaca.  He scoured the jungles and riverbeds for flowers and found objects; Bones and teeth, he added to his works, creating coconut frond masks, and bowls from Coconut shells. The jungle light penetrated his palette, and his colors became more vibrant. They became alive.  He subconsciously mixes it with the light of the South of France. His affinity for the handcrafted works is carried with him today. The Christian religious and spiritual symbolism is significant, and has grown to engulf and represent his work. He frequently visited Venezuela and Colombia, especially the Lake Maracaibo area, and more recently traveled to Nicaragua, where he completed a series of watercolors. The beadwork of the Huicholes have translated into Byzantine mosaics from the Mediterranean. He has had one man shows in Puerto Vallarta at the Galleria Uno, the Pemex Towers in Mexico DF and  the National Palace in Guadalajara, Mexico, before bringing works which he previously exhibited at the Maison de l'American Latine in Monaco. His Latin American watercolors have grown into oil paintings of the South of France's back country. As a second generation American of Syrian ancestry, while sharing the last name with the president of her grandparents' homeland may be coincidental the affect it has had on her personally and professionally has been significant. The artist's reaction to this recent history culminates at Abmeyer + Wood in her upcoming solo exhibition, Proceed With Caution. Christa Assad is a ceramist who has been lauded with accolades in recent months, including numerous magazine features, international residencies and being named "2013 Artist of the Year" by Ceramics Monthly Magazine and Pottery Making Illustrated. All of this exposure has made Assad realize that her art can become a soapbox to stand upon. As the conflict in Syria has escalated and captured international attention following the sarin gas attacks used by President Bashar al-Assad, the artist Christa Assad has become compelled to raise awareness to these issues. While on the surface Assad has trouble relating to Sunni-Shiite conflicts in the Middle East (she was raised in a Christian family in Pittsburgh), the strife in Syria has caused her to become more interested in her heritage and triggered a desire to affect change within that culture. In Proceed with Caution Assad develops a new visual vocabulary immersed in the language of war. Gas masks, grenades and rocket propelled grenade launchers are all represented, but in Assad's case these are miraculously thrown and altered, displaying her virtuoso ability on a potter's wheel. Assad pushes the shocking imagery further with zeppelins and detritus from war that are painted with slip and underglaze and then fired. In Mirroring (2013) a hand-built ceramic "cinder block" (as if a piece of warzone rubble), becomes a canvas depicting soldiers with assault rifles in the midst of battle while other works depict similar scenes of rebel fighters. The Syrian War is just one of many terrifying conflicts in the Middle East. Assad’s work in Proceed With Caution is meant to trigger a humanitarian reaction to warfare. With a vocabulary of symbolic forms and images including grenades, gas masks, drones, rocket-propelled grenades launchers, cinder blocks and caution cones, Assad places a magnifying glass on objects of war and their consequences. Christa Assad received her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University where she was a Fullbright Scholar and then received her BFA from Indiana University. In addition to many prestigious private collections, Assad's work can be found in the collections of the Fine Art Museums of San Francisco.
