September 2015: This December 2-6, the ongoing evolution of Design Miami/ will see a number of exciting ‘firsts’ for the fair alongside the maturation of its core relationships and initiatives. The abiding strength of interest in design from Brazil is marked by the inaugural participation of Firma Casa from São Paulo. Design Miami’s dedication to supporting young and emerging design talent takes a new turn as the fair partners with Harvard University Graduate School of Design (Harvard GSD) on a unique pavilion commission. Following the attention garnered by the dedicated watch satellites at Design Miami/ Basel this summer, the December 2015 fair will for the first time host a horological exhibitor in the gallery program. The joie de vivre associated with the fair’s graphic identity in recent editions will be given fresh verve by the celebrated French illustrator Pierre Le-Tan. The Design Curio program for special projects that challenge and contextualize collectible design will return for its second Miami edition.

(SCOTTSDALE) – Larsen Gallery, a national leader in the secondary art market for more than 20 years, is targeting new audiences this fall with several exciting events, including The Phoenix Symphony Young Professional Fall Membership Event and Larsen Auction Preview Party, leading up to their biggest event of the year: The Larsen Art Auction at The Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses & Horsepower at WestWorld on October 24.

“We have some spectacular events this fall that will really connect us with a wider audience than most galleries are able to reach,” said Scott Larsen, Owner of Larsen Gallery and Art Auction. “We aim to share our passion for the arts, and excited to do so with our involvement with the Phoenix Symphony and Bentley Scottsdale Polo Championships.”

Larsen Gallery will host The Phoenix Symphony Young Professionals (PSYP) Fall Membership event onThursday, Sept. 24 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at its Downtown Town Scottsdale location. PSYP is a networking group that encourages social events tied to concerts throughout the year that cultivates younger audience members’ interests. Guests will savor complimentary cocktails and appetizers, enjoy entertainment by The Phoenix Symphony, learn about the membership benefits as well as get a sneak peek at the Larsen Art Auction collection.

The 2015 Larsen Art Auction inside The Picasso Pavilion VIP tent at theBentley Scottsdale Polo Championships: Horses & Horsepower on Saturday, Oct. 24 at WestWorld. Returning for its second year, the 2015 Larsen Art Auction is expected to be the largest live art auction at a polo championship event. The collection includes several valuable Picasso works of art, as well as original paintings by LeRoy Neiman, Milton Avery and Maynard Dixon.

In addition to the live Larsen Art Auction and three championship polo matches, the Polo Party will feature a Fashion Show by Phoenix Fashion Week, Canine Couture Runway show, field-side ballroom dancing by Fred Astaire Dance Studios, a Phoenix Symphony quartet at preview of the 2016 Barrett-Jackson Collection Car Auction.

MINNEAPOLIS, September 14 2015—The Walker Art Center will present the first solo exhibition in the United States of German artist Andrea Büttner (b. 1972), including a newly-commissioned installation. Andrea Büttner will be on view from November 21, 2015 through April 10, 2016 in the Burnet Gallery. Andrea Büttner’s work often creates connections between art history and social or ethical issues, with a particular interest in notions of poverty, shame, value, and vulnerability, and both exploring and challenging the belief systems that underpin them. Working within a range of premodernist media that includes woodcuts, reverse glass painting, weaving, sculpture, and moss cultivation, Büttner emphasizes such methods in dialogue and counterpoint with video, performance, and installation. By restoring outmoded methods of our time, Büttner challenges conventions of high and low, constructing a profound space between ornate and humble, cool remove and humility, and the urge to judge or remain partially withheld. She often infuses her work with her own primary research on artists who engaged in socially responsive projects, including German printmaker and activist HAP Grieshaber and the Welsh painter Gwen John. In other projects, Büttner has positioned the relatively anonymous alongside a questioning of monumental or iconic figures, a contrast evident in the artist’s recent illustration of German philosopher Immanuel Kant’s Critique of the Power of Judgment (1790). #fineartmagazine

Hulda Rós Guðnadóttir and Stockholm-based curator Jonatan Habib Engqvist present a book project at the bookstore Pro qm in Berlin-Mitte. Keep Frozen: Art-Practice-As-Research – The Artist’s View unites 165 illustrations of and numerous writings on the artist’s ongoing research project Keep Frozen. It discusses and reflects upon the shaped present and possible future of places like Bíldudalur, a small fishing village on the coast of Arnarfjörður, one of the Westfjords in Iceland, the central harbour of Reykjavík, the old fishing port of Essaouira on the West coast of Africa and Brooklyn’s isolated neighbourhood Red Hook. The book is an introduction to the artist’s videos, experiments, observations, sculptures, installations and exhibitions about people and places alongside the Atlantic coast. It also presents the artist’s view on one of the most influential methods of global contemporary cultural production: art practice as research.
Keep Frozen: Art-Practice-As-Research – The Artist’s View was brought out by De-Construkt {projects} in New York; it is distributed by Torpedo Press, Oslo and ÚTÚRDÚR, Reykjavík. A signed and numbered special edition of 20 copies will be available at the venue.

The second presentation extends the discussion about art practice as research to include experimental art initiatives from the south. Laila Hida and Brussels-based curator Hicham Khalidi have both conducted extensive research and realized art projects in cities like Marrakech in Morocco. Hida is the founding director of Le 18, an alternative art space in the Médina of Marrakech. Her collaboration with Magnum-photographer Susan Meiselas in the project Morocco (2013) comprised a 6-hour pop-up photo studio that served the photographer as a research tool for an exhibition about women in Marrakech. Khalidi, who curated the visual arts program for the Marrakech Biennale in 2014, speaks with the artist about her next project.

After the artists’ presentations, the public is invited to ask questions or present further projects from around the world.

The book presentation, screening and discussion is funded by the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations (ifa) and the Swedish Embassy in Berlin, with additional support from the Embassy of Iceland and the Finland-Institute. New York, NY September 24, 2015 – Forum Gallery presents an exhibition of new sculpture by British artist Sean Henry. The pairs and groups of figures and groups are created in clay from life and drawings and then cast in bronze. Each work is then painted by the artist, giving them their own emphatic physicality.

Forum Gallery presented Sean Henry’s first U.S. exhibition in 2002, and has shown his work in group and solo shows ever since. The artist’s work is now exhibited regularly in Germany, Sweden, Greece, Norway and Holland, as well as in his native England.

In 2015 his newly commissioned portrait of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web was introduced at the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Henry’s sculptures are installed in public collections throughout the world, including in Germany, Holland, Norway and Sweden as well as the U.K.  In the U.S., Sean Henry’s works may be seen in the collections of the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Grand Rapids, Michigan; the University of Virginia Art Museum; and Seven Bridges Foundation, Greenwich, Connecticut.  His work is included in numerous private collections in the U.S. and around the world.

The exhibition is on view from September 24 through November 7, 2015; A reception and walk-through with the artist will take place October 8, 2015 at Forum Gallery, 730 Fifth Avenue at 57^th Street, from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
