Southampton, NY, 6/20/11 - From July 7 through July 10, 2011, the fourth edition of ArtHamptons, the international art show of modern, post-modern and contemporary works, will return to Bridgehampton.
ArtHamptons will be a tightly vetted show as the number of galleries will be reduced to 77 in order to provide fairgoers a more cogent, manageable viewing and art- buying experience. There will be 4,000 artworks and 500 artists represented. International galleries will be from Israel, Korea, Japan, Greece, U.K. Canada, Spain, China, and Finland.
U.S. galleries will include Abby M Taylor Fine Art, Arcadia Fine Arts, C. Grimaldis Gallery, Caldwell Snyder Gallery, Catherine Edelman Gallery, Cernuda Arte, Danziger Projects, Eli Klein Gallery, Finch & Ada, Jackson Fine Art, Jenkins Johnson Gallery, Jerald Melberg Gallery, June Kelly Gallery, Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery, McCormick Gallery, Robert Klein Gallery, Throckmorton Fine Art, KIWI Arts Group, Vincent Vallarino Fine Art, Waterhouse & Dodd, and Westwood Gallery. Local Hamptons dealers will include Mark Borghi Fine Art, Richard Demato Fine Arts Gallery, Keszler Gallery, Tulla Booth Gallery, Eric Firestone Gallery, and McNeill Art Group.
The Galleries will showcase paintings, drawings, sculptures, art glass, and photography. Prices will range from a thousand to several million dollars for museum-quality pieces. As a benchmark, last year's show sales in the $20,000 to $50,000 range predominated and amounted to $6 million. During the four-day run, 8,000 visitors attended, establishing the show as one of the highlights of the Hamptons' summer season.
ArtHamptons will inaugurate photoHamptons, a fresh focus on fine art photography. As the largest selection of fine art photography ever offered in the Hamptons, photoHamptons is designed to encourage and stimulate Hamptonites to buy and collect the medium. Historically, the Hamptons has been considered a serious photography buying marketplace, but before now has offered few venues with museum-level work. Limited to a dozen elite photo dealers, fairgoers will experience the finest in vintage, contemporary, modern, and post modern as well as photo-based art and video. Sponsored by Aperture Foundation and photograph magazine, the photo dealers will include Danziger Projects (exhibiting a new collection of iconic pictures of Kate Moss from photographers including Chuck Close and Annie Leibovitz), John Cleary Gallery, Throckmorton Fine Art, Tulla Booth Gallery, Finch & Ada, Robert Klein Gallery, Cavalier Galleries, KIWI Arts Group, and Catharine Edelman Gallery. They will be located throughout the ArtHamptons building
"ArtHamptons has emerged as one the premier summer must-attend events," said Rick Friedman, founder, Hamptons Expo Group and ArtHamptons, Southampton. "Hamptonites and art lovers have come to appreciate and look forward to experiencing the selection of significant fine art in the dynamic global art marketplace that we create for four days. With the rebounding Hamptons economy, driven by record bonuses on Wall Street this year, we expect the level of serious art buying to exceed last year."
There will be a British invasion with 11 U.K. galleries exhibiting, more than double from the year before. They will be Alicia David Contemporary, Cube Gallery, Cynthia Corbett Gallery, Fine Art Consultancy, Long & Ryle, Northcote Gallery, Woolff Gallery, Waterhouse & Dodd (London and NY), HackelBury Fine Art Ltd., Rebecca Hossack Art, and Turner Barnes Gallery.
For instance, Woolff Gallery will be bringing Russell West's "Slow Big Bang," conceived to represent the Big Bang theory. A colored board was placed on a wheel and each day a wire was added and paint dripped down the wire. The work was dried overnight, the wheel was turned a fraction and the process was repeated every day for a year. On November 7, 2010, the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland created a mini big bang. ad the similarities were amazing, according to the gallery.
Long & Ryle Gallery will be showing paintings by Spanish artist Ramiro Fernandez Saus and Katharine Morling, to name a few. The light in Ramiro Fernandez Saus’ paintings has an extraordinary character. By day, it varies from the pale clarity of an equatorial morning to the glow of languid Mediterranean afternoons. Regardless of the light source it has the same effect: transporting the scenes that Ramiro depicts from reality to a dream world of heightened feeling. Ramiro captures the imaginative thrill of discovering unexplored lands, stunning sea voyages and inventive interiors. It is Ramiro’s subject matter that the distinguished painter Craigie Aitchison loved.
Katharine Morling creates animated scenes with an unusually dynamic appearance for the medium of ceramics. Morling describes these objects as three- dimensional ‘sketches’ and the true nature of the material is at first, not immediately clear: paper or fabric? It is only through touching the sculptures the viewer discovers the material is clearly ceramic. Morling’s aim is to bring dreamscapes to life by creating physical artifacts. Morling was awarded the ‘European Triennial of Ceramics and Glass’ in Brussels.
Waterhouse & Dodd will return with its stellar lineup of contemporary artists including Jean-Francois Rauzier, Jeremy Duncan, and Robi Walters. British artist Jonathan McCree's new landscapes paintings that question ideas of what a landscape may consist of, and test our aesthetic, historical and theoretical ideals, will be shown by Northcote Gallery.
Abstract Expressionist painter Mary Abbott will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award that honors excellence in visual art. Now in her 90s, Abbott has created a powerful body of work in which she combines spontaneous, gestural brushwork with a highly creative use of color. She resides and maintains her studio in Southampton. Meet Mary Abbott on Saturday, July 9, from 12 noon to 2 p.m., in our Collector’s Lounge.
Legendary Hamptons artist Peter Dayton is using digital photography to create his iconic surfboard imagery on a 2012 VW Touareg produced especially for ArtHamptons 2011. Sponsored by Volkswagen and hosted by artnet. Peter Dayton's other art works will be displayed in the Mark Borghi Fine Art booth.
There will be a Northeast premiere of the short film: "Full Circle: Before they Were Famous," featuring Warhol superstars Ultra Violet and Taylor Mead who will be present to meet and greet and sign their books. The documentary chronicles the astonishing journey of the images taken by fine art photographer William John Kennedy in the early 1960's of Robert Indiana and Andy Warhol with their iconic works. The negatives sat in a box for nearly 50 years, rarely seen by the world or his subjects until now. The film is full of personal anecdotes and remembrances by many of the principals of the story, and includes appearances by Indiana, Ultra Violet, and Mead as they view their images for the first time. The film is a presentation of the KIWI Arts Group.
Russell Simmons, media mogul and philanthropist, Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and Danny Simmons, visual artist and philanthropist (RPAF), will receive the Art Patrons of the Year Award. Russell will sign copies of his new book “Super Rich: A Guide to Having It All.” "Art saves lives, it's that simple," says Russell Simmons who will be present along with his brother Danny Simmons, on July 9, 5 pm to 6 pm, to receive the award and to hold the book signing of both of their latest works.
The Opening Preview Party will be held on July 7, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m, and the proceeds once again will go to LongHouse Reserve. Last year, the show's opening drew 1,500 art collectors and guests from around the Hamptons, New York and beyond.
Most of the Hamptons' arts and cultural organizations will be exclusively supporting and promoting ArtHamptons as cultural partners. They are the Parrish Art Museum, Guild Hall, Pollock-Krasner House & Study Center, LongHouse Reserve, Hamptons International Film Festival, Ross School, The Jewish Center of the Hamptons, Children's Museum of the East End, Southampton Fresh Air Home, and Heckscher Museum of Art.
The USA Network, a sponsor to ArtHamptons, will use ArtHamptons as a central theme for an upcoming episode of “Royal Pains”. The hit TV show is about a doctor that makes house calls in the Hamptons. Since attending ArtHamptons is one of the highlights of the Hamptons social and cultural summer season, USA Network considers it is an ideal backdrop setting to convey the ultimate Hamptons experience. The twist is, they are not shooting inside the actual fair in Bridgehampton, but rebuilding and reenacting a portion of the ArtHamptons Opening Preview Gala scene with their stars on their set in an undisclosed location.
These partnerships are expected to increase the attendance to surpass last year's record. Beneficiaries of a portion of the ticket sales will be the Guild Hall Museum, Bridgehampton Historical Society and Parrish Art Museum, respectively.
Celebrity spotting has become a sport at ArtHamptons as exhibitors had the pleasure of meeting "famous art lovers" including Kelsey Grammer, Joy Behar, Connie Chung, Rosanna Scotto, Jon Bon Jovi and Edward Albee. The scene is reminiscent of and referred to by attendees as "the mini-Art Basel" of the Hamptons.
Special Events will include:

Ultra Violet and Taylor Mead will be part of the panel discussion following the screenings of the film, and will be signing a limited edition print of them photographed by William John Kennedy in 1964. Additionally, Ultra Violet will be signing copies of her international best seller, “Famous for 15 Minutes, My Years with Andy Warhol” at 4 pm, Saturday, July 9 in the Collectors Lounge. The film will be shown throughout the weekend: Friday, July 8, at 3 pm and 5 pm; and Sunday, July 10, at 3 pm and 5 pm.
- Art lovers can meet Mary Abbott on Saturday, July 9, 12 to 2 pm, when she also will be signing a catalogue.
- Meet Russell Simmons and Danny Simmons on Saturday, July 9, 5 pm - 6 pm. when they will be signing their books.
· Meet artist Peter Dayton and his painted 2012 VW Touareg created especially for ArtHamptons 2011 on Thursday, July 7, 6 – 9 pm, and throughout the weekend.

Located at Sayre Park, the fair will feature a significantly upgraded building construction and infrastructure from last year. It will be one massive open room, a 50,000 square foot modular building with thicker flooring, a dramatic glass façade lobby, impeccable climate control, a movie theater, and a larger parking area. The categories for submission are:
- Painting
- Sculpture
- Art videos no longer than 4 minutes
- An original art print or graphic on paper: mono print, litho etching aquatint, and woodblock, original digital art print
- Drawing
- Fine Art Photography
Three award winners will be selected in each category.
The submission fee will be $10 for one image, $20 for two images, and for every image after it will cost an additional $5. No refunds will be awarded if the material falls outside of the stated guidelines listed below.
The Fine Art Magazine Juried Award Exhibition winners, three from each category will receive:
Coverage in a Fine Art Magazine in an article displaying the selected winner’s works/ or representative image from a video, with a paragraph description of the artists & their selected work.
The winning images will be printed and published as a SunStorm Series PosterGiclee, to be displayed at the Daria Deshuk Studio, Bridgehampton, New York on July 8th, for the evening of the exhibition opening 6-8 PM.
The opening exhibition will be streamed live on Fineartmagazine.tv, Fineartmagazine.com, and facebook.com/Fineartmagazine.
The Exhibition Opening tape will be posted to YouTube.com/Fine Art MagazineChannel.
With featured segments focusing and displaying each art work submitted during the event 6-8 PM.
SunStorm Arts Publishing Co. Inc. retains the right to use the submitted images for publication, in publicity and online all art submitted will be displayed online by SunStorm Arts Publishing Co Inc. @ Fineartmagazine.com. Fineartmagazine.com will retain the right to display all images submitted for the First Fine Art Magazine Juried Award Exhibition online.
All entries must be the artist’s original material, carrying the watermark © of the artists. To enter, artist must be 21 years of age. SunStorm Arts Publishing Co., Inc./ Fine Art Magazine will not accept or display images containing pornography, abuse, violence, hate, bullying or promoting messaging promoting any of the above prohibited referenced guidelines.
SunStorm Arts Publishing Co. Inc retains the right to discern what is acceptable within the described format stated above and the right to refuse any submission falling outside the guidelines of the contest rules or outside the guidelines for accepted Internet behavior legal formats.
Any error in image submitted: corruption of files, or inability to display due to format error or incompatibility is the responsibility of the entrant to fix by supplying a corrected file. All images must be submitted/ uploaded via the Internet upon application for participation. We will be accepting 1.2 MB files
The submission payment is due when an image(s) are submitted.
